This Morning’s Gyles Brandreth has backed his pal Josie Gibson to win I’m A Celebrity over Nigel Farage because she’s genuine.
The 38-year-old shot to fame after coming first in the 2010 series of Big Brother and now is a daytime telly darling stepping up to main hosting duties more often since the departure of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. The ITV star said: “You do well on I’m A Celebrity if you’re a decent human being because it reveals that.
“I think Josie is going to win it. She came in with a little quip to Nigel Farage about Brexit. She’s a very easy person and can’t pretend to be what she isn’t.

“The thing about I’m A Celebrity is you can’t be what you’re not. Josie’s great sense of humour her greatest asset to the camp and the fact she’s game for everything. She gives everything a go. She is truly game for a laugh and is a likeable person.”

A former Conservative MP for Chester, Gyles shares a political background like Mr Garage but won’t be chowing down on animal willies in the jungle. He says: “Nigel is doing it is for people to see him for what he’s really
like.
“I’ve only met him a few times and don’t really know what he’s like. I’ve been asked to do it and I wasn’t tempted at all – I thought Nigel needs the money more.”
Gearing up for Save The Children’s Christmas Jumper Day on December 7, which sees the charity welcome donations in exchange for people wearing a sustainable festive top, Gyles is getting in the celebratory mood. He says: “This Morning always gives a great Christmas party.

“The joy is they have so many wonderful chefs who help provide the food. And Alison Hammond… her laugh. Being with Alison is like being with Mother Christmas because she does a ho, ho, ho, which is fantastic.
“I did a Christmas show once years ago with Barry Manilow and he was great fun. And last year at Christmas on This Morning we had Cliff Richard on.
“He’s the only person has had a No 1 in five consecutive decades since the fifties – he’s actually older than me – and usually has a Christmas song, so that was quite exciting.”

The 75-year-old owns 365 Christmas jumpers and in the eighties created his own knitwear with the slogan I’m A Luxury – on the front – and Few Can Afford on the back, made famous after Princess Diana wore one. Gyles says: “I support Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day because I feel we need to be more childlike all the time.
“Christmas jumpers go back to the 1930s and were made popular when Bing Crosby would wear them on TV then they were made more famous by Love Actually. One of my favourites is 3D and I attach presents and bobbles.”
Taking the jumper business seriously Gyles keeps his in a temperature-friendly, moth-free special basement room.
He says: “They’re organised by season and by animal – I have dogs from a Corgi to a British bulldog, there’s fruit and veg section and lots with my own name.”

Like most families Gyles has his own festive traditions which make the big day extra special. He says: “For me, Christmas is about the children – I have three – and grandchildren – I have seven.
We have a nice tradition instead of giving each other expensive presents I get the grandchildren to learn a poem by heart and they recite it after lunch. We play games, open presents and before we have mince pies and tea we get them to recite a poem.
“Sometimes we have a competition where we pick the silliest Christmas jumper, sexiest and oldest, which I always win! To mark this year’s Christmas Jumper Day on December 7, Save the Children is opening Story Knits – a pre-loved knitwear pop-up store in Covent Garden from December 1-7.”
