ITV’s I’m A Celeb shock as Corrie star ‘forced to pull out’ days before series

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! might be in trouble as it’s said Coronation Street actor and rumoured campmate Alan Halsall has pulled out of the show days before the launch.

The soap star, who is best known for playing the role of Tyrone Dobbs, recently underwent a knee operation which has left him unable to participate until he recovers. Alan had reconstructive surgery on his ACL ligament last week and according to the actor, the operation went “really well”.

The fan favourite is believed to have injured his knee during exercise and will have to lay off sport for up to a year. This also means he will need to take time away from the famous ITV cobbles to recover.

An ITV source told The Mirror: “It’s a big blow, but there’s no way he can go to Australia – his surgeon would have a fit. Alan needs to recover fully and then maybe he can take part next year.”

The insider added that Alan’s no-show will be a huge disappointment to those involved in I’m A Celeb. They added: “It’s a massive shame because everyone was really looking forward to having him on the show, but these things happen.”

Alan had his damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) removed and replaced with a tendon from another area of the leg. Last week, the actor headed over to Instagram after his op.

Sharing a snap of himself in his bed and another of his leg, he wrote: “Reconstruction surgery [green tick emoji]. Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery.

“I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family & friends I’ll get there.”

“Thank you to the amazing! Staff at Oaklands..and also thanks to my very own nurse, Ratched. Any rehab tips or advise,” he added.

After seeing his post, fans rushed to the comment section to share their support. One social media user wrote: “Good luck with your recovery, please keep us updated x my hubby’s going to an appointment today to decide on surgery or not.”

While another fan mentioned Alan not appearing on I’m A Celeb. They penned: “We won’t be seeing you on I’m a celebrity so,” followed by a crying face emoji.

Confirming the future of Tyrone on Corrie, a Coronation Street spokeswoman said he will remain on screen for the rest of the year but will then disappear for a bit. She said: “Alan will be on screen in the coming weeks as we film two months ahead, and then he’ll be taking a short break whilst he recovers.”
