Joe Lycett has been shortlisted for a major award after his headline-hitting cash-shredding stunt last year, following the controversy surrounding David Beckham’s mega-money deal with Qatar.
The comedian joins names including Sue Perkins, Sir Rod Stewart, RuPaul, Harry Styles and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson in the nominations for this year’s British LGBT Awards.
The award show, set to take place in June, celebrates the leading LGBT+ activists, allies and showbiz names who have worked to promote LGBT+ rights over the past year.

And thanks to Joe’s stunt – which saw him threaten to shred £10,000 unless Becks ended his partnership with Qatar – he’s been nominated for Media Moment of the Year.
After David failed to respond to Joe’s threat, the funny-man posted a video of himself shredding the cash, but he soon admitted the money was fake and he’d donated the sum to Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign and Sport Allies.
Other moments nominated include Netflix series Heartstopper, Channel 4’s Big Boys and Alex Scott’s One Love Armband at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The category was one last year by John Whaite and Johannes Radebe’s same-sex pairing on Strictly Come Dancing.
Anne-Marie and Lizzo will battle it out for Music Artist of the Year alongside the likes of Yunglbud and Rina Sawayama.
Meanwhile, Billy Porter, Emma Corrin and Luke Evans are some of the names nominated for the coveted LGBT+ Celebrity of the Year gong.
British LGBT Awards founder Sarah Garrett, MBE, said: “It is more important than ever that we shine a light on those who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBT+ community, during what has been another very challenging 12 months for the community.
“The nominees, which include an exciting mix of famous LGBT+ faces, allies and organisations have all demonstrated a commitment to advancing LGBT+ rights.
“The awards on 23 June will be a huge celebration of our culture and we’re so proud to continue championing the LGBT+ voice.”
