Kate Garraway slammed by GMB viewers for talking ‘dumb’ to Greek Prime Minister

Fans have called out Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway for the way she spoke to the Greek Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was appearing on the show to appeal for help following the devastating wildfires that have engulfed the country.

Holidaymakers were forced to leave islands including Rhodes and Evia as blazes raged during the last few weeks.

But Mitsotakis asked for British tourists to consider coming to Greece for a sun holiday, as it tries to restart the tourism industry.

He added that any British tourists that had to flee Rhodes as a result of the blazes would be offered a free holiday to the island on behalf of the Greek government next spring.

Co-host Ed Balls asked the Prime Minister whether British tourists should come to Greece now the fires had died down, to which Mitsotakis shot back: “Of course they should come!

“There is absolutely no danger – we have always had fires. What was demonstrated in Rhodes is that we are much better prepared for these types of events.”

Kate also touched on the effect of climate change on the fires, and the frustration he feels when other world leaders do not pull their weight.

“What does it make you think when other international leaders don’t seem to be taking it as seriously […] Does it make you think ‘you’re just not getting it’ when other countries take a different approach?” she asked.

Garraway, 56, went on to ask the politician what would he teach British PM Rishi Sunak about looking after the environment, as well as taking a tougher stance on migrants.

Viewers were full of praise for the Prime Minister, with many branding him “eloquent” and “articulate” throughout his interview.

But they were quick to hit back at Life Stories presenter Kate, with many feeling she had been speaking down to the politician.

One viewer took to social media to ask: “Why is Garraway talking to the Greek PM like he’s dumb?”

Another hit out at Kate, writing: “What is Kate Garraway’s problem with Greece? What an awful attack on a nation’s main industry”.

Whilst a third took aim at co-host Ed Balls, saying: “Ed Balls asks the Greek PM if British tourists should come to Greece like was some sort of dramatic cliff hanger question – in what universe is he going to say no?”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
