Actress Lily-Rose Depp has said that she “never felt more respected or safe” whilst filming The Idol’s sex scenes.
This comes after fans have labeled the show “torture porn” due to the explicit scenes featuring revenge porn, self-harm, drug abuse, masturbation, choking and a sexual encounter involving a knife.
The show, which features The Weeknd and Lily-Rose’s character Jocelyn having a torrid romance with twisted cult leader Tedros, and Lily has defended her the controversial scenes.

in a cover spread with Vogue Australia she said: “I was never interested in making something puritanical. It’s okay if this show isn’t for everyone and that’s fine – I think all the best art is [polarising].
“I’ve never felt more respected and more safe on a set, honestly.”
“So when it comes to the nudity and the risqué nature of the role, that to me was really intentional.
“That was really important to me and something that I was excited about doing.
“I’m not scared of it. I think we live in a highly sexualised world. I think that’s an interesting thing to explore.”
Lily explained that playing the part of Jocelyn “changed her”.
She said: “I’ll never say goodbye to Jocelyn. It was such a beautiful time in my life, honestly, shooting this, with you, with all of us and everything.
“I’ll never forget it and it will live in my heart forever. I love this character so much, I feel like she has really changed me and also taught me so, so, so much.”
This comes after it was confirmed that HBO has pulled the plug on the erotic series after just five episodes.
Angry fans soon turned to social media to vent their frustration – questioning how all the loose ends could possibly be tied up in one more 60 minute episode.
One penned: “Seriously, all that drama and controversy for just five episodes?! I feel like I wasted my time watching The Idol. Very, very disappointed.”
