Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha told viewers she was “so broke” before landing her EastEnders stint.
On Friday’s episode (July 7), Nadia told the panel how before making her big break as Annie Palmer.
Nadia said: “I was so broke when I got EastEnders, I would walk along the streets kicking around on the streets trying to get 50p for a potato, for a jacket potato, to put in the oven.”
“I never thought I had a chance, when I joined they were at 18 million viewers.”
Katie Piper then confessed that when she first joined the Loose Women panel, she gushed over Nadia and thought “Wow, I’m in a meeting room with Annie Palmer”.
She also teased that she would potentially return to the show if she was guaranteed to “have fun”.
Nadia explained: “The thing is I’m not ambitious in my career as an actress, but if I thought I was going to have huge fun, I would go back for a few weeks but I would have to know that I was having fun.”
The panelist starred on the soap for two years from 1997 until 1999 but previously declared that she left because she was given “rubbish” storylines.
She previously said: “I remember me and Adam Woodyatt wondering how we were going to cope if we had to do one more week of our rubbish storyline. Because at one point my storyline went a bit weird when I was working for the council with the rubbish.”
In a previous interview with the Daily Star, she also explained how “broke” she was before landing the part.
Nadia said: “When I got the part I could not believe it. I was so happy. I was so broke.
“I remember thinking there wasn’t going to be a Christmas that year, that’s how broke I was. I was literally thinking about pennies on the street and so it was totally extraordinary.”
Since her EastEnders days, Nadia has gone on to become a favourite Loose Women panellist as she continues to share her honest yet sometimes controversial views on current societal issues and celebrity gossip.
