Married At First Sight dinner party erupts as Laura slams Luke for ‘gold digger’ remarks

Married At First Sight made for awkward viewing on Tuesday night, (October 3) after Laura confronted Luke regarding his “gold digger” remark.

The tension was rising on the hit E4 show as the couples attended their second dinner event. But although there were smiles around the table, something was evidently brewing.

During the evening, the couples were given a series of questions to ask each other about their marriages. Laura, who was without her husband Arthur, was accused by fellow MAFS participant Jay that they weren’t giving enough effort to the process.

Jay said: “We want to get to know you but we haven’t actually had a chance as both of you haven’t bothered.” Shocked by his comments, Laura bit back and asked whether anyone had come to herself or Arthur.

Jay responded: “It’s a two-way street though babe, it is. You didn’t even say hello to me at the dinner party last week.”

But the tension continued to rise as Laura took aim at Luke’s comments that he previously made in the couple’s commitment ceremony. Luke branded Laura a “gold digger” and claimed she was only looking for someone with money.

Talking directly to the camera, Laura said: “Luke has a lot of opinions, he called me a gold digger and he is in the wrong. I am not going to take anyone’s s***,” she says in her to-camera interview.

Luke and Laura clashed over his previous comments

Not long after, Laura pulled Luke for a chat. She began by saying: “I wanted to be able to correct a few things. the gold digger narrative is so f***ing lazy. That was disrespectful.

Luke interjected: “You sat on the couch at the ceremony, what you were asking for was a man with money. Someone who was going to look after you financially.”

Laura clearly disagreed with his statement and replied: “I have never once in my life needed a man to pay for anything. It was f***ing painful to hear when I have actually been used in the past for that myself. I actually paid for my last wedding so if I am a gold digger then I am definitely doing it wrong.”

While another said: “As much as Luke and Jay seem to get on, he doesn’t seem like a very nice person when he’s talking about others.”
