Naked Attraction bosses forced to step in as racy show causes ‘outrage’ with US fans

Naked Attraction has caused such an outcry when airing in the United States that one of its executive producers has been forced to step in.

Show boss Darrell Olsen has confessed that the “shock and outrage” the show has caused since it started streaming on HBO Max in the US is the “same thing” that happened in its native UK. The Channel 4 hit dating series has had fans switching off from day one.

Following one singleton looking for love and faced with various naked partners in clear boxes, the show sees them whittled down based on the attractiveness of each requisite body part. At the end of each round, the original dater also strips off before striding off into the sunset with their chosen partner.

Now Olsen has confessed to The Hollywood Reporter: “What’s happening in the States right now is [like how the U.K. reacted] seven or so years ago. You have ‘I can’t believe this is on screen’ – shock and outrage – mixed with ‘This is quite amazing.’ The show isn’t for everyone, but everyone is interested in it.

“I think what will happen with you guys is, hopefully, what happened over here, where the ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this is on TV’ turns into ‘It’s a pretty good show.’ Also, the stories get better and we push more boundaries [in the latter seasons].”

He originally thought the show’s concept wouldn’t take off in the States because of the “public feeling about nudity on TV” – and even tried to make a US spin-off without success.

But now Darrell is “very excited” by the reaction the programme is already having with audiences, launching amid the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

That’s not to say the show has never featured any Americans. Darrell confessed that one of his most memorable contestants was one US citizen who was “very beefy and all-American” – and “liked to be pegged”. He doesn’t want to create a “watered down” version of the show for the US – and refused to have “everyone wearing underwear” while topless as suggested by one network.

“That isn’t honouring what this show is about,” he confessed. But it is a show that’s already grabbed the attention of various American celebs – including Chrissy Teigen and RuPaul.

Darrell would “love” to do a celebrity version of the programme, quipping: “If you can round up enough celebrities, that would be a great way to launch a US season, wouldn’t it?”
