Neighbours fans finally know exactly why Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Pearson) fled Erinsbrough a year ago.
The character’s absence has been the subject of speculation among fans ever since the Australian returned to screens in September and a huge week of flashback episodes has filled in the dots. Earlier this week, Melanie stunned her loved ones upon returning to Ramsay Street as she started to detail the real reason for her mysterious departure.
Her ex-husband Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) previously claimed that Mel declared that she no longer wanted to be a stepmum to his children but this is not the case.

Throughout the week it has been revealed that Melanie was being tormented by Krista Sinclair, an old face from her past who also happens to be Reece Sinclair’s (Mischa Barton) missing sister. Mel was a former housekeeper for the Sinclair family and historically tried to stop Krista from buying drugs, which backfired dramatically when the police caught Mel on CCTV.

Krista, in the flashback scenes set two years ago, used such information to pressure Mel into handing over cash as part of her plan to go travelling. It wasn’t just Krista, however, with Eden Shaw (Costa D’Angelo), ex boyfriend of Holly Hoyland (Lucinda Armstrong Hall), also involved in the plot.Toadie wanted the rest of the story but Mel refused to carry on without David Tanaka (Takaya Honda), Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) and Nicolette Stone (Hannah Monson), who were all on their way.

David stopped off at Lassiters to speak to Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), and this reunion was far from a happy one, with Paul left horrified by news that Melanie was about to spill the beans about what really happened as he raced over to the Willis house to stop Mel. During Thursday’s (November 15) episode, It later came to light that during an argument, Mel pushed Krista into a pool on the roof and was left not breathing.

In a shock twist, it was revealed that Eden got rid of Krista’s body and made a deal with Paul to stay quiet for a big price. A teaser trailer which played at the end of instalment showed Melanie in prison and being visited by Toadie’s new wife Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou). Fans will have to wait and see how Melanie ended up behind bars and if she will end up back in the arms of Toadie.
