Netflix Beef star talks filming ‘shameful’ gun sex scene that had fans ‘feeling sick’

One star of hit Netflix series Beef has opened up on filming the “shameful” scene which sees her character masturbate using a handgun.

Ali Wong, who plays Amy Lau alongside Steven Yeun’s Danny Cho in the new series, filmed one scene where she becomes obsessed with a gun kept in her partner’s safe.

The scene sees Amy get hot and heavy with the gun, cocking it and pulling the trigger of the – thankfully unloaded – weapon against her own crotch as she makes orgasmic moans.

Some fans were left sickened by the scenes, which have been branded “problematic”.

Ali Wong ‘wasn’t nervous’ filming her iconic gun sex scene

But actor Ali told Digital Spy: “I wouldn’t even call it problematic. I would just say it is what it is. But for her, she doesn’t feel comfortable with anybody seeing it, you know?”

She added of the scenes in an interview with Variety: “A lot of the things that we were initially talking about, I didn’t connect to. I was like, ‘that seems truly shameful and I would never enjoy doing that’.

“And then as soon as he said, ‘How about masturbating with a gun?’, I was like, ‘Oh yeah’. It was like when someone is like, ‘Do you love this person?’ and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, without a doubt’, immediately!

The actress said she agreed ‘immediately’ to do the raunchy scene

“It’s one of those scenes where you think you’ll be nervous but I really wasn’t. It felt real. So I didn’t really think about it too much.”

Actress and comedian Ali added of her character: “Amy has a lot of shame. When she says in the finale, ‘I don’t want anybody to see me’ – you know, so many people desperately want to be seen, and she’s like, ‘Oh, no, I really don’t want people to see me’.

“That’s one of those things that she doesn’t want people to see, you know? She’s done something she wouldn’t even tell a best friend, and probably wouldn’t write even in a journal because she’d be too scared of someone reading it and finding out.

“That’s why she has the blanket over her head,” she said of Amy’s extramarital affair sex scenes.

However, some fans were left baffled by the scenes and took to social media to share their thoughts.

One Twitter user said: “Beef on Netflix is crazy, what’s that lady doing with a gun?”

As another said: “I’m watching Beef and I’m so confused by this gun scene!” and someone else followed up: “Just seen THAT gun scene in #Beef and feel sickkkk!”
