A Netflix star who performed alongside Natalie Portman has told how he wore a prosthetic penis for a whopping “nine hours” in the pair’s sex scene.
Charles Melton is the star of highly anticipated – yet unsettling – drama May December which is due to hit TV screens on Friday (December 8). And one steamy scene with Natalie sees Charles brandish a prosthetic todger on-screen.
The 32-year-old actor recalled wearing the plastic pecker for a hours on the day of shooting, which he admitted, got pretty “annoying” as he had to sacrifice drinking fluids. He said: “There were a few conversations about the prosthetic, regarding what was realistic and what wasn’t,” he told Variety.

“And I had to wear that prosthetic for nine hours that day. I didn’t have anything to drink that morning or the night before. That was an annoying process but still very respectful.”
Charles played character Joe Yoo who was just 13 when he started his relationship with 36-year-old Gracie Atherton-Yoo, played by Julian Moore. Their large and frankly sickening age gap which turned Joe into an “adult child” was splashed across the tabloids in drew the attention of filmmakers.
Actress Elizabeth, played by Natalie, is tasked with observing the pair for an upcoming movie role. However, things appear to shift from the voyeuristic to the physical as Joe and Elizabeth have a brief sexual encounter in a hotel room.
While Natalie recently revealed that she’d never get her boobs out for a film, the same couldn’t be true for Charles as one scene revealed a clear shot of what was thought as his penis. But in the recent interview with Variety, he revealed that the sequence with his member dangling in all its glory wasn’t actually his own: it was a prosthetic.
Critics have hailed Charles’ performance with whispers he may be in for a shout for Best Supporting actor at the Academy Awards. May December has been met with equal praise.
