Salma Hayek questioned whether she really wanted her role in Black Mirror after her “self-deprecating” character had to do some “grotesque” scenes.
The stunning 56-year-old actress joined the all-star cast of Charlie Brooker’s hugely successful Netflix show, with its latest series streaming from Thursday.
But as Salma read the script of the shocking show, she questioned if she would “get in trouble” for some of its “disgusting” scenes.

“There are so many moments that shocked me in the script”, she told Radio Times.
“There is one huge one that I had to come to terms with, and made me ask myself, ‘Do I really want to do this? Am I going to get in trouble?’”
Salma joined Black Mirror’s star-studded crew for its sixth series, where she plays a non-celebrity version of herself who finds out that a streaming service has launched a TV drama about her life.
And while her “absurd”, Truman Show-like role was ultimately “a lot of fun”, some of the scenes left her skin crawling.
Salam said: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an interpretation of myself. I got to explore the concepts and clichés people have about me and be self-deprecating.
“It’s as if I created an alter ego where I could do the most disgusting, grotesque things that you would never do in real life… and have permission to do that.”
The six time Prime Time Emmy award winning show has captivated audience for over a decade as Brooker shows off the dark side of technology in his twisted tale.
Salma hailed the British writer for his ingenuity and doesn’t know how he thinks of his wacky ideas.
She added: “It’s been surreal, and I think only a mind like Charlie Brooker’s could have come up with such a concept.”
Brooker is adamant to keep the show fresh after more than a decade on air, and avoid the tropes of cliche storytelling.
“It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself”, he said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum platform.
