Iconic musician David Crosby has died at the age of 81.
The member of the band the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash died Thursday ‘after a long illness,’ his wife Jan Dance told Variety.
“It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away.

“He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us.”
She continued asking for privacy for the family as they come to terms with their loss.
“His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly.
“At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Fans flocked to pay tributes to the veteran rocker as the sad news of his death was confirmed.
“Rest in peace David Crosby, you were in one of my favorite bands ever, Crosby Stills and Nash will never be forgotten!” gushed one fan.
Another said: “Rip David Crosby. Legend.”
“Ah no, David Crosby RIP. A great songwriter and survivor,” offered a third.
The Los Angeles, California native founded the band The Byrds in 1964, finding their first number one hit with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
It was in 1968 when Crosby formed Crosby, Stills & Nash with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. The group won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1969.
His career saw him achieve the rare feat of being inducted to the revered Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
Crosby, Stills and Nash came together as a supergroup later that decade, and performed their first concert as a trio at the legendary Woodstock festival.
Hits written by Crosby as part of the band included the hippy anthems Almost Cut My Hair and Deja Vu.
His most recent album, For Free, was released in 2021.
Crosby is survived by his wife Jan Dance, their son Django, son James Raymond, and two daughters, Erika and Donovan, from previous relationships.
In 2000, it was revealed by singer Melissa Etheridge that Crosby was the biological father of two children born to Etheridge’s then-partner Julie Cypher via artificial insemination.
