Strictly’s Tess Daly shut down by Craig Revel Horwood in awkward on-air exchange

Strictly’s Tess Daly appeared to be lost for words after she was savagely shut down by no other than judge Craig Revel Horwood on Saturday’s (18 November) live show.

The Australian-British author and dancer is often renowned for his impolite commentary on the BBC programme but doesn’t normally take aim at the lovely 54-year-old host Tess – leaving many stunned.

In the studio at the time of the awkward exchange, a roaring cheer could be heard from the crowd after actor Layton Williams and his partner Nikita Kuzmin were awarded the couple’s choice dance this week, with the pair taking full ownership of their routine with a Strictly first.

After they’d finished, many of the judges were on their feet applauding but sour-faced Craig remained in his seat as excited Tess approached him first on the panel for his views.

Getting the crowd going Tess gleefully said “hands up if you wanted to join in?” as Layton and Nikita joined her to hear the judges comments.

Turning her attentions to Craig, she asked: “Did you want to join in Craig?” but was not met with a kind response, instead was rather rudely shut down.

Responding to her question, the former professional dancer and champion impolitely returned with: “Err no thank you,” before he began to laugh and critic the dancing duo.

Craig had not been impressed with the Nikita and Layton’s synchronicity, among other pointers he felt could have gone or been better.

However, many of the other panel members disagreed with Craig and loved the sizzling performance that had much to offer – including a Strictly first which was a pole prop incorporated.

Layton and Nikita, took it in turns to both spin around the large silver pole on several occasions, also using it to aid with a super split, along with the racy paid grinding on it too, sending hearts beating.

The pair performed to ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ by Christina Aguilera and received stand out reviews from the most of the other judges, with Shirley Ballas commenting that they were “creative geniuses”.

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One at 6.40pm on Saturday
