Hollywood star John Goodman showed off his “righteous” bod from shedding a mammoth 200lb (14st/90kg) after starting his fitness journey.
John, 70, has starred in some of Hollywood ‘s biggest movies since the 1990s – from playing the voice of Fred Flintstone in 1994s The Flintstones and Sulley and 2001’s Monsters Inc to Howard in 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane.
But with his onscreen success at the fore, the Golden Globe winner entered an arduous battle with food and drink behind the scenes.

The Big Lebowski star began his fitness journey in 2007 after his scales skyrocketed to 392lbs (28st/177kg) – which is around sumo wrestler territory.
“I’d have a handful of food and it’d go to my mouth. I was just eating all the time. I was just eating alcoholically”, he told ABC in 2016.
But on Sunday, John showed off his dramatic weight loss at the season premiere of HBO series The Righteous Gemstone at the 62nd Monte Carlo film festival.
The Hollywood veteran looked fit as a fiddle as he walked the red carpet 14st lighter as he showed off his physique in a tailored suit jacket and beige trousers.
John kicked off his weight loss journey after getting a stark warning from medical practitioners, and he cut the booze in 2007.
But it wasn’t an easy ride, as he got caught in a cycle of crash dieting and losing significant weight for movie roles, before “rewarding” his efforts with binging.
He said: “In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits.”
Along with the doctor’s orders, the actor revealed that his self esteem had hit rock bottom and he knew it was time to make a change.
He admitted: “I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself. You’re shaving in the mirror and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”
The first port of call was to clean up his binge eating habits.
John implemented a Mediterranean-style meal plan which focused on fresh, nutrient rich foods from lean fish and meats, an array of veggies and of course, lots of olive oil.
Personal trainer Mackie Shilstone also helped guide the star to a lighter lifestyle with a strict exercise regime.
The Barton Flink co-star worked out for six days a week, while also making sure to hit 10,000-12,000 steps per day, and uses an elliptical bicycle and treadmill.
John reportedly described his weight loss journey as one of the hardest things he’s ever had to have done, next to giving up smoking.
And he hasn’t been afraid of voicing his ups and downs, but his drive to want to “live better” has always come out on top.
“It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a** and figure out what you’re going to eat next. I wanted to live life better”, John told People magazine.
“John Goodman is, quite frankly, a legend”, event organiser Laurent Puons told Variety on the decision to appoint Goodman head of the jury at the 2023 Monte-Carlo TV Festival.
“He’s crossed several generations with a phenomenal film career, and a phenomenal television career. He’s done it all, played every role.
“If he wasn’t leading the jury, we’d give him our lifetime achievement award.”
