Taylor Swift postpones gig after tragic death of fan leaves her ‘overwhelmed with grief’

Taylor Swift has been forced to halt The Eras Tour due to “extreme temperatures” and the tragic death of a “beautiful and way too young” fan in Rio De Janeiro.

The songstress was left “overwhelmed with grief” on Friday (17 November) after she’d been informed that a fan had died moments before she was about to take to the stage in Brazil. Taylor took to Instagram with a heartfelt post offering up her condolences and support.

Later, the chart topper returned to her online platform confirming that she was left with no other choice but to postpone her next gig due to the “extreme temperatures in Rio”, Taylor went on to add that the safety of her “fans and crew” was paramount.

The statement read: “I am writing this from my dressing room. The decision has been made to postpone tonights show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first.

While it is likely that there will be many disappointed Swifties who were hoping to catch a glimpse of their idol on stage, it is undoubted that any fans will no doubt not understand the firm hand that was taken after a “young and beautiful” fans died at her concert.

According to local newspaper Fohla De Sao Paolo, Ana Clara Benevides, 23, passed out while at the show. Her cousin Estela Benevides told the publication that Ana then suffered a cardiac arrest, resulting in her sudden death.

The tragic incident happened on a scorching hot day in Brazil, with temperatures soaring to a 100 degrees. Videos surfaced on-line of fans chanting “water, water, water” as Taylor paused her show to demand that fans were kept hydrated by staff.

At one point the hitmaker demanded “there’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back,” she then asked those who were struggling in the heat to make themselves known so that water could be provided to them all.

After she’d wrapped up the concert, Taylor took to Instagram with an extremely heavy heart, penning her sadness and “grief” after being informed that one of her devoted fans had passed away before she’d taken to the stage.

Taylor wrote: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”

Airing her condolences, the Bad Blood singer wrote: “I am not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say no i feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
