The One Show’s Alex Jones issued a jovial warning to comedian Griff Rhys Jones after he almost said an X-rated phrase live on BBC One.
Chatting to Alex and Roman Kemp about his new tour, The Cat’s Pyjamas, Griff spoke about alternative titles for his string of summer stand-up gigs.
Speaking about the gig, Griff chatted about how he “had a list of titles” for the shows but swayed towards The Cat’s Pyjamas.

“It’s just a great phrase isn’t it,” Griff gushed as he spoke to Alex and Roman.
He went on: “In Ireland, they talk about the spider’s ankles, which is the same.”
Roman interjected: “And that’s the follow on tour?” to which Griff agreed, jokingly, before almost saying a very rude phrase on air.
“The dogs… um,” he said to the hosts, before acknowledging the watershed because he clearly meant – and wanted to say – the phrase “the dog’s b****cks”.
Griff went on: “When you look it up in the dictionary of slang, it says it was first used by Mel Smith, in a play that he wrote called The Gambler.”
He then added: “And we all use it now,” before quipping: “So, that was the alternative title, but apparently I wasn’t allowed to use it.”
Alex then said: “We like The Cat’s Pyjamas, and it’s more suitable for 7pm,” in a slightly weary voice.
The multi award-winning comedian, writer, actor, and television presenter, 69, is gearing up for his national stand-up tour – The Cat’s Pyjamas – which is much-anticipated by his fans.
Griff will travel the country sharing hilarious anecdotes relating to TV, his childhood and his Welsh family.
The Cardiff-born comic will also touch on nostalgia and the TikTok generation.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
