This Morning star Dermot O’Leary was gifted an incredible experience from the ITV programme following his 50th birthday last month.
The former X Factor host, who replaced Phillip Schofield as the show’s main presenter following his departure from ITV, sat alongside Holly Willoughby as they fronted Thursday’s programme (June 22).
To mark the 50th anniversary of the world-famous Duxford Air Show as well as Dermot’s 50th birthday, the award-winning daytime show treated the presenter to a day he would never forget.
Dermot, who is a die-hard aviation fan, was allowed to fly a Hurricane plane which was known as the main workhorse during the Battle of Britain.
As he approached the plane, Dermot said, “Handily they’ve given me a parachute! Let’s hope it’s purely precautionary!”
During the flight, Dermot said, “What an incredible feeling, the sense of history is pretty overwhelming.”
Before getting the chance to take control of the plane himself, he muttered: “Are you mad?”
Afterwards, Dermot declared: “That was such a privilege and such fun!”
Back in the studio after watching the footage back, Dermot told Holly: “It was like re-living history, as soon as you sit in it, the smell… but it was so graceful.
“You feel completely safe but you’re also aware that you’re in something that is almost a hundred years old, but you feel so secure inside it…”
Holly said, “Well happy birthday to you too!”
Dermot replied, “Thank you and thanks for my present. I used to go to Duxford all the time as a kid and there are loads of airshows there this summer, it’s well worth doing.”
Fans of This Morning headed straight to social media after the segment, with several shocked after learning Dermot’s age.
One person penned: “So where can one purchase a bottle of whatever Dermot drinks, to look that good at 50! #ThisMorning”.
“Gotta be said, Dermot does not look anywhere near 50!!,” added a second fan.
While another viewer echoed: “Have to say Dermot doesn’t look 50 #ThisMorning.”
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 & ITVX
