Amanda Holden’s three-word request from Jamie Theakston after cancer diagnosis

Amanda Holden a request from her co-host Jamie Theakston, who has cancer.

Heart Radio host Jamie, 53, announced he has been diagnosed with Stage 1 laryngeal cancer following an operation on his vocal chords. He took to Instagram on Tuesday (September 17) to share the news and confirm he’d be taking a break from the show.

He wrote: “Hi folks, as you know – I recently had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal chords. The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer. So I have cancer but cancer doesn’t have me!

“The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October. Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK (Jason King) and Amanda.

“Huge thanks to them and all the Global family who have been unbelievably supportive. Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell… Jamie x.”

And now his dear pal Amanda has revealed that Jamie told her and JK to “hold the fort” on their breakfast show while he was away. She told Heart listeners on Tuesday: “We share everything with you on this show, the ups and the downs, so it feels only right that we get you completely up to speed with what’s going on…”

After sharing Jamie’s cancer diagnosis, she explained: “It is not all bad news.” JK said: “The prognosis is very positive and Jamie has an amazing team who are going to get this sorted. He’s going to be okay.

“He’s hoping to be back with us very soon and you know what Jamie’s like. He’s been on this show for twenty years. He’s done this show for a long time. This show is about feel good. It’s all about having a good time.”

He said the show is about putting a “smile” on your face and that Jamie “does not want that to change.” Amanda added: “No, he has told us that we’ve got to hold the fort and he has told us that the show must go on, and absolutely that’s what we are going to do. We are going to do him proud.”
