Andy Murray tipped for Strictly after mum Judy’s stint on under-fire BBC show

Andy Murray has been tipped for a stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 37-year-old tennis legend, who has won three Grand Slam singles titles, recently announced his plans to retire from the sport. It means his recent appearance at Wimbledon, which was marred by more injuries, was his last.

The upcoming Paris Olympics will be his last ever tennis tournament. However, he could be in for a huge career change as bookies believe he could follow in his mum Judy’s footsteps with a stint on Strictly.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “All eyes will no doubt be on Andy Murray’s next move after the Olympics, and the odds suggest he could be an ace addition to this year’s Strictly line-up.” Judy appeared on the 2014 series of Strictly.

She was partnered with now-judge Anton Du Beke, and they amde it to the eighth week of the competition. The pair got through to Blackpool week and danced a Viennese Waltz to the Mary Poppins song Let’s Go Fly A Kite before being booted from the ballroom.

They landed in the bottom two following the public vote. All four judges – Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonili and Bruno Tonioli – opted to save Sunetra Sarker and Brendon Cole.

But Len praised Judy’s performance, saying: “I’d like to say that I thought tonight’s performance was fantastic.” Judy admitted: “I was starting to think I was absolutely hopeless but I know am still not very good!”

She added: “Anton has treated everything with the most incredible sense of humour, he is great fun to be around and has made my Strictly experience very very special.”
