BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay has broken his silence after a lengthy absence from the red sofa, with various stand-in presenters covering for him during Easter.
The presenter is a favourite on the BBC morning programme but was recently absent, with Ben Thompson taking his usual spot. However, he has now cleared things up with a social media post that confirmed he was just enjoying some time off.
Jon told fans that he had been on holiday in Cornwall for a few days, sharing snaps on Instagram of a rock, a delicious-looking pasty, his feet clad in muddy walking boots – and a flat tyre. The star said he and his family had a blast on their trip but that they had car trouble and some rather wet weather.

“Bleddy great few days in Cornwall,” he told his fans on the site. “After years of working there as a journalist, it’s so good just to be able to visit for family fun.
“Flat tyre. Rained every day. As you can see, I fell over in a muddy ditch (and then pretended it was a deliberate April Fool – nobody was fooled) but we had a lovely spring break.
“Hope you’ve been enjoying some time off, too.” Jon, who has three children with his wife Francesca, added a string of hashtags including “#easterbreak” and “#holiday”.
Fans commiserated about Jon’s car issues and the rain and said they were excited about seeing him back on the sofa after his travels. “Not a great week then Jon, looking forward to seeing you back on the box though,” one said in the comments section.
“Kids will dine out on the story of when Dad fell in the mud, nice one x,” said someone else. Another remarked: “That pasty looks fantastic! Looking forward to seeing you back in the office!”
“As I Cornish lady I can sympathise!” said another. “But it’s fabulous when sunny! That did make me chuckle tho!”
“The main things is that you and family made memories,” said another viewer.
