BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty was not too impressed after her co-host made a brutal dig at one of the show’s guests.
The morning show returned for another instalment on Saturday (March 2) with Naga and Charlie Stayt back at the helm to give viewers a rundown of all the latest news. But things soon took an awkward turn.
After their chat with Dan Whitworth, a presenter on Money Box, wrapped up: Charlie said: “We’re going to talk about The Brits now. It’s tonight isn’t it?”

Naga replied: “Yeah,’ before turning the conversation back to Dan. She said: “I do want to say though there’s a really lovely piece that you’ve done that’s running on Money Box.”
Guest Dan replied: “Yeah about that whole exhibition about the Bank of England. It’s a lovely radio piece.” Charlie then chimed in and quipped: “Too many nerds!” Dan agreed and said: “Money needs and history geeks.”
But Charlie wasn’t done – in a dig he joked: “By way of contrast, Dua Lipa, Blur and Kylie Minogue”. Naga’s jaw dropped at her co-stars swipe. So much so, she issued an apology to him.
“Oh Dan! I’m so sorry, you are cool,” she reassured him. However, the guest took it on the chin as he laughed along with the hosts.
It comes after BBC Breakfast fans compared the show to “Punch and Judy” after Charlie interviewed one guest. Viewers were left outraged on Thursday (February 29) after hearing news that the government is set to increase school fines for parents who remove their children from school unauthorised outside the holiday period.
The fine will increase from £60 to £80 per parent as part of a government incentive to return attendance to pre-pandemic levels. Interviewing the Minister of State for Schools, Damian Hinds, Charlie tried to get to the bottom of the situation while even suggesting that £20 didn’t make that much of a difference.
The news anchor also tried to find out from Damian whether any parent had received serious repercussions or “legal action” for not paying a fine but after pressing him for figures, Damian was unable to answer.
