Bridgerton fans slam Netflix for major ‘irritating flaw’ in almost every scene

Bridgerton fans have been left fuming after spotting many “historical inaccuracies” sprinkled throughout season three.

The third instalment of the saucy period drama series was recently released on Netflix and many have taken to social media to point out the same thing after bingeing. Bridgerton has been slammed for the use of acrylic nails and fake eyelashes in many scenes, while others claimed that the actors’ facial fillers gave a distinctly 21st century look.

Nicola Coughlan’s character Penelope Featherington was slammed by fans after they noticed her hands during one scene. The Mirror reported that someone questioned “why she has acrylics on” after she was seen sporting a French tip manicure.

One Netflix viewer joked: “She’s a time traveller,” while another streamer said they noticed her nails “immediately”. The show is set in the early 1800s when these cosmetic enhancements hadn’t even been invented yet and one fan even asked why the crew decided to give her “acrylic nails in the 19th century”.

Penelope wasn’t the only role to come under fire as Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, also received backlash for her noticeably modern appearance. Many quipped about the star’s makeup and one Netflix viewer scathingly wrote: “Is no-one else peeved by the fact that the females on Bridgerton had glam faces the whole time beat with highlight, contour and eyelashes? Aggravating.”

On TikTok user claimed that Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, may be giving some fans “the ick” due to Botox and later clarified: “This is a critique of the Bridgerton styling team who [were] generally very heavy handed this season across the board and not a critique of Luke Newton who looks amazing in real life, likely because some of these treatments have worn off.”

Others claimed that Colin “looked so confused” during scenes when he was “meant to look alluring,” while someone else added: “Dude, he was airbrushed to have no pores too, it was a freaking combo.”

Despite the criticism, many Bridgerton fans gathered online to defend the hair, makeup and costume department by reminding naysayers that the story “is fiction,” not mean to portray “real life” and that no-one is watching the show for “historical accuracy”.
