It’s that time of year again when the biggest musicians from all across the globe gather for another star-studded award ceremony.
The BRITs returned for another year of recognising some of the best hits to make the number one charts in the UK. And the hitmakers certainly didn’t disappoint with another display of plunging dresses and show-stopping suits on display on the red carpet.
This year, radio presenters Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp will be joining forces with Love Island presenter Maya Jama to host the glamorous event which will be hosted at London’s O2 arena. It marks the awards show’s first trip since 2009 when Kylie Minogue joined Gavin and Stacey duo James Corden and Matthew Horne at the helm.

As the celebrations for the 2024 BRIT Awards get underway, Daily Star has take a look back at some of the most embarrassing moments in the show’s impressive history.
Jarvis Cocker bum protest
In 1996, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker stole the show when he ran on stage during Michael Jackson’s performance. In what he later called an “act of protest”, Jarvis rushed on stage and wiggled his bum to the cameras, the singer and the audience.
The act was said to call out Jackson and his ‘God-like’ complex during the height of his career. The hitmaker later explained: “My actions were a form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing.
“The music industry allows him to indulge his fantasies because of his wealth and power. People go along with it even though they know it’s a bit sick. I just couldn’t go along with it anymore.
“It was a spur-of-the-moment decision brought on by boredom and frustration,” he concluded.
Geri Halliwell boob flash
But one year later, all eyes were on the Spice Girls at the BRIT Awards – just six months after Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Posh and Baby burst onto the pop scene. That summer Geri Halliwell made the front page with her now famous Union Jack dress which left little to the imagination.
But this wasn’t the only time the fiery redhead wowed fans, when the singer took to the stage in a glitzy sequin dress at the BRITs as they accepted their awards for Best British Single. The mum-of-one shocked viewers when she suffered a major wardrobe blunder after her boob popped out of her strapless dress.
Luckily, Geri managed to laugh off the awkward moment and carried on with the show like a trooper.
Nadine Coyle passport error
The Spice Girls weren’t the only girl group to suffer an awkward mishap at the prestigious event when Girls Aloud were nominated for Best British Group at the 2008 ceremony.
But loyal fans will remember that only four members of the band were in attendance when fans noticed Nadine Coyle was nowhere to be seen. Strutting their stuff along the red carpet was Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl.
The blonde beauty later confirmed that she couldn’t make the journey from Los Angeles to London after she lost her passport. She said at the time: “I just wanted to let you all know how frustrating it is losing your passport.
“I lost it somewhere over here [in LA] and wasn’t able to make it back. That’s the only reason I wasn’t there! Hello? I’d love to have spent the night with my girls.”
Adele flips the bird
Adele first burst onto the scene in 2008 and it didn’t take long before she was accepting awards of her own at the BRIT awards. In 2012, Adele burst into a frustrated tirade after she was cut off while accepting the coveted gong.
The then 28-year-old singer, who was awarded a trophy for Best British Album, spoke for less than 20 seconds before host James Corden interrupted her acceptance speech. The Gavin and Stacey star walked on stage and introduced a final performance by Blur.
Adele’s idol George Michael shared the stage with her, showing up at the ceremony for the first time in 17 years to show his support for the London hitmaker. It is believed she was wafted off stage rudely by a runner to ensure the programme didn’t run over its allotted time when she gave them the finger live on stage.
Mumford & Sons after party blunder
Back in 2013, Mumford & Sons were one of the biggest bands in the UK. But the band had their fair share of difficulties when trying to get access to their own after party bash at the 2013 BRIT Awards.
Lead singer Marcus Mumford was granted access, but banjo player Winston Marshall was reportedly turned away at the Universal Records shindigs – despite the fact it was thrown in the group’s honour. Reports said at the time that Winston was stuck outside for ages before someone finally realised who he was and let him in.
Harry Styles’ toilet dash
One Direction became one of the biggest boy bands in the world after they were catapulted to fame back in 2010. And four years later, Zayn Malik, Nial Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne received a gong for the Global Success Award.
But loyal fans will remember that the Watermelon Sugar star was nowhere to be seen when the band went up to give their acceptance speech. At the time, Liam asked the audience: “Has anyone seen a curly-headed one? I don’t know where you are Harry.”
It was at this point that Harry bounced up to the stage full of apologies. He confessed: “I’m sorry, I was having a wee. The toilets were ages away.”
Madonna’s epic tumble
In 2015, pop icon Madonna came tumbling down from the stage during her live BRIT Awards. The 65-year-old singer fell down a set of stairs and landed awkwardly when a dancer tried to remove a cape during her routine.
Ever the professional, the mum-of-four was ever the professional and quickly recovered from her tumble as she continued to belt out her song, Living For Love. The Vogue hitmaker later issued a statement to her concerned fans.
Taking to Instagram, she insisted she was “fine” and that her cape was simply “tied too tight”. She continued, referencing her lyrics: “Nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up. Thanks for your good wishes.”
