Cheers production ‘shut down’ as Woody Harrelson’s ‘vegan farts’ were ‘so horrible’

Woody Harrelson’s “vegan farts” were so potent that they caused production to shut down on the set of Cheers.

The 63-year-old actor, who has been following a plant-based diet for more than three decades, was quizzed by his podcast co-host Ted Danson about his gassy issues while filming in close quarters. Ted asked Simu Liu, Woody’s co-star in the survival thriller Last Breath, about his experience filming with Woody, saying: “Did you shoot in that chamber where you have to be onboard the ship – what is it called?”

Simu replied: “Yeah, the sat chamber.” Woody interjected: “It wasn’t an actual sat chamber. I mean, it was, but it wasn’t.”

Ted then noted: “It was close quarters, though. There’s a reason why I bring this up. When I worked with Woody, it was a huge sound stage, but his vegetarian farts were so horrible that he would shut down production. I’m just wondering what happened with you.”

Woody corrected him, saying: “Excuse me, but it was ‘vegan’ farts.”

Ted quipped: “Vegan. Sorry, vegan, which gives it an actual pecan.”

Simu said: “They were vegan farts to be fair. You were really nice. I think you were really nice about it.”

Woody insisted there was a reason why he gave off so much gas, saying: “That was back when I didn’t chew my food.”

In a hilarious revelation, Men In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld disclosed a particularly gassy incident involving Will Smith on set. Appearing on Kelly Ripa’s podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera, he recounted how filming had to be halted for hours after Smith let rip a fart so potent, they were forced to evacuate the hermetically sealed pod he was in with co-star Tommy Lee Jones.

Barry shared: “They have to be put in this device, which is [a car] that transforms into a hyper car, and [they’re] going to go through the Midtown tunnel upside down. We have to bring a ladder over on wheels like it’s like the old days when you would get on airplanes from the tarmac. We get them up there and we put them in the thing and we turn it upside down and we’re ready to shoot.

“There are locks to prevent it from opening and falling.

“I say, ‘Roll camera,’ and I hear Will Smith go, ‘Oh Jesus, so sorry. Tommy, so sorry. Baz, get the ladder.’ And you hear Tommy saying, ‘That’s fine, Will. No worries, Will. Don’t worry, Will.'”

Not initially understanding why Smith was apologising, Sonnenfeld then revealed: “So we race the ladder over. Yeah, Tommy reaches his leg out as the ladder is coming over, races down the stairs. And what happened was, Will Smith is a farter. It’s just some people are [farters].”
