Children In Need host Ade Adepitan ‘nervous’ about hosting as ‘rollercoaster’ show

Ade Adepitan will be nervous when he hosts Children In Need.

The star has been presenting for years, but doing live TV still makes him nervous. He told me: “Children In Need is amazing. It’s always a wonderful night. But I get nervous, of course.

“There is nervous excitement because you know everything you’re doing is being broadcast immediately. That adds to the impact and urgency of what you’re doing. But that’s what makes it special.” Ade also has to battle emotions when he’s hosting the show.

Many of the stories that air throughout the night are tough to watch. He explained: “It’s a rollercoaster. You can go from an appeal film about someone who needs life-saving treatment to the EastEnders cabaret show and then a choir.

“I try to keep it real. There is no point in me being stoney-faced about something that I know people at home will be crying about.

“If I’m feeling the emotion, I’ll be showing it.” Last year’s show raised an incredible £33.5million to help needy youngsters.

Ade is hoping this year’s effort will top that.

He said: “I’m really proud of the British public. Every year they show up and give money. They’re so generous, even through hard times.

“We are a nation of great people.”

The fundraiser starts on Friday at 7pm on BBC One.
