You may not have heard of this quaint Croatian town, but it is a festival hotspot for party-loving Brits throughout the warmer months.
Tisno Town is just a stone’s throw away from the bustling Garden Resort, which boasts an epic line-up of events including Hospitality on the Beach and Terminal V Croatia.
Unless you are staying on-site, the majority of attendees will be staying in Tisno which is a five-minute drive away from all the action. Of course, this means a whole hoard of hungry Brits will be wondering where is best to eat their hangovers away and during our week’s stay, we tried out many of the town’s restaurants so you don’t have to.
Here is our verdict on the best of the bunch, including everything from cheap eats to hidden gems…
Pizzeria Martin (£)
Here we found the cheapest meals of the whole trip. We ordered a huge wood-fired marguerite pizza coming in at €8 (£6.75) as well as a dish of grilled and battered vegetables €9 (£7.50). Don’t be put off by the greyish-purple mushroom sauce – it ended up being the tastiest part! Our plates were served quickly and we were welcomed with a smile by their very accommodating staff. So nice, we returned twice!
Srdelica (£)
We made a quick pit stop at Srdelica, a quaint fisherman’s restaurant with simple meals packed with lots of flavour. The prawn burger €11 (£9.20) was served in a fluffy black bun with a decent helping of chips on the side – juicy and delicious all round, this must-visit spot quickly ranked high among our Tisno favourites.
Soha III restaurant (££)
After passing by this chic restaurant a few times, we were finally drawn inside by this strange-sounding concoction. We admittedly had our doubts as a large grilled slice of cauliflower ‘steak’ €17 (£14.50) doused in salsa with two large, thick triangles of gnocchi on the side seemed an unusual combo we’d definitely never think of ourselves, but upon tasting, we were pleasantly surprised.
The gnocchi was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, while the fresh salsa paired unexpectedly well with the cauliflower. We lapped up the entire meal in a matter of minutes and were even tempted to return for a second portion, but alas we didn’t have time. We’re still dreaming of it to this day and have vowed to try and recreate it ourselves.
Konoba Broscica (££)
You simply can’t go wrong with chicken and chips – a British classic that reminded us of home. We lined our stomachs before a day of dancing to drum and bass with grilled chicken, €11.50 (£9.70) and a huge side salad, €3.95 (£6.75), along with a surprisingly epic portion of bruschetta €7 (£5.90) which came with a mountain of fresh tomatoes piled on top. Bonus points to the waitress for swapping out all the black olives and giving us a bowl full of green ones €3 (£2.50).
Restoran Prova (£££)
The ginormous plate of freshly grilled seabass €21 (£17.50) on the menu here was the best meal we ate the whole trip. Tender meat slipped straight off the bone and the crispy fish skin was almost addictive. The sea bass was served with chard, a Croatian side dish made with spinach and potatoes that perfectly accompanied this melt-in-the-mouth fish dish that was bursting with flavour. Best of all, the tables are sat directly next to the dock so foodies can spend the evening watching the sun go down while listening to the lapping waves.
Olivia Green Camping (£££)
This hidden gem was a short six-minute drive from Tisno’s town centre, but certainly worth a visit due to the laid-back vibe of the beach-side grounds (a must after late nights of banging bassline). The ‘Beefsteak’, known more familiarly to us Brits as fillet steak, was certainly a show-stopper – as it should be when coming in at a steep €36 (£30)! The cut was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and accompanied by one of the prettiest plates of the most colourful grilled veg we had ever seen.
