Danny Jones forced to return I’m A Celeb prize just hours after winning ITV show

Danny Jones was crowned King of the Jungle on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! but all is not as it seemed.

Despite winning the show, the McFly rocker had to bid farewell to his jungle crown and sceptre, and there’s no cash prize either. Poor Danny was left gutted as he wanted to take it through the airport with him before jetting back home to the UK.

He beat out stiff competition from Coleen Rooney and Reverend Richard Coles in the final of the ITV show. The star bravely opened up about his struggle with anxiety during his time in in the I’m A Celeb camp.

An emotional Danny gushed to his viewers after his victory: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s a lovely feeling to be liked. I gave my all in there, and this means so much to me.”

However, his treasured coronation gear was just for show – it turns out I’m A Celeb winners aren’t allowed to take home their regal gear. Danny told This Morning: “I didn’t get to keep anything! They wouldn’t let me keep anything! ” he declared, reports the Express.

“I had to give the sceptre back. I really wanted to bring it through airport security because it’s quite big,” he joked. “But yeah, I don’t have anything to show for it.”

In contrast to other reality shows like Love Island, where the winning couple bag £50k, I’m A Celeb pays their contestants a flat fee for entering camp rather than a cash prize at the end. However, they must stay in the jungle for at least 72 hours in order to receive their fee.

Danny was crowned King of the Jungle in a nail-biting finish to the popular series. Danny was tipped to win from the start, but Rooney – famously nicknamed Wagatha Christie after her courtroom win against Rebekah Vardy – and Reverend Coles grabbed the other top spots.

Discussing his win, Danny said: “This is totally insane. I’ve learned so much about myself, and that’s because the campmates were unbelievable.”

He continued with a stark word on the reality behind the scenes: “It was way harder than it comes across on TV. You’re hungry, you’re tired, you’re lethargic.”
