Darts wonderkid Luke Littler has been crowned as Google’s most-searched athlete of 2024 – and has now been presented with a plaque to commemorate the achievement
Luke Littler, Warrington’s own darting wonderkid, has landed a special accolade for his astonishing rise in the sporting-world.
At just 17, he’s outdone even the most googled Olympians and footie stars to become Google’s top-searched athlete of 2024.
Google’s splashed its search stats for the year, showing off the UK’s hottest web hunts across various categories.
Littler, stunned by his online fame, gushed: “It’s been an amazing year for me personally, and for the sport of darts as a whole. I can’t quite believe I’m trending higher than both the Prime Minister and the King.”
The arrow ace slots into third place on the ‘People’ search list, behind Kate Middleton and none other than Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the Euros bagged the top spot in general searches, with folks eager to know “When is the Euros final? “.
As Brits trooped to polling stations, they were also hammering out queries like “How to vote in the UK” and “When is the General Election” Over the pond, the US Presidential Election had Britons abuzz, with many asking “When is the US Election? ” and Trump clinching second place in trending people.
And let’s not forget Eurovision fever UK fans were busy looking up “How to vote for the UK in Eurovision”.

The Gallagher brothers have been crowned the kings of this year’s music scene by Brits, with Oasis tickets becoming one of the hot topics on the trending list.
Cyndi Lauper’s name hit the search stratosphere after she rocked Glastonbury Festival and dropped the bombshell about her “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour”, marking her first solo tour in more than ten years.
On the telly front, ‘true’ crime buffs were all over Fool Me Once and Baby Reindeer, which topped the TV search charts. Not to be outdone, Ryan Murphy’s chilling Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story also made a splash.
Cinephiles couldn’t get enough of Joker: Folie a Deux and Deadpool & Wolverine, making them some of the most googled films, while Rivals, the screen adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s 80s hit, stirred up nostalgia on the TV chart.
Google News Initiative’s Matt Cooke chimed in: “2024 has been a year of comebacks, curiosity, and community.”
He added: “It’s amazing to see what captivated the UK, and it’s always a privilege to highlight these moments in our Year in Search.”
