Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa confirms he’s staying on show as part of big money deal

Ncuti Gatwa has signed up to do a third series of Doctor Who.

The actor will start filming the new episodes in 2025 as part of a big-money deal with the BBC and Disney+.

In a new interview, he said: “It is all going well. We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year.”

Ncuti’s comments put an end to speculation he is set to quit the hit show after just two series.

Reports over the summer claimed his future on the show was in doubt and he was “yet to make a decision”, but his new deal now means he will be on screen as The Doctor until at least 2026.

Former Sex Education star Ncuti has won a new legion of fans since becoming Doctor Who.

The star was amazed by the reaction he got from fans when he attended Comic Con — a convention for people who are obsessed with the show.

He said: “It was incredible. It was like nerds’ Olympics. It was intense but beautiful and Whovians are the sweetest and best fans.”

Ncuti is also set to thrill fans in a stage production of The Importance of Being Earnest in London later this year.

The project is a world away from Doctor Who. He said: “We started this week, and we are still sitting at a table dissecting the script. It is very silly, fun and camp – it is a traditional production infused with a modern lens.”

Ncuti was speaking during an interview for The Graham Norton Show, which will air on TV tonight at 10.40pm on BBC One.
Other guests include Miranda Hart, Kevin Kline, Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana.

Meanhile, The Little Mermaid and The Tattooist of Auschwitz star Jonah Hauer-King has bagged himself a role in the 15th series of Doctor Who.

The casting coup was announced by actress Millie Gibson, who stars as Ruby Sunday who teased: “It’s the rare case where you see the companion after The Doctor. It’s never been explored before, and I think it’s such a beautiful and clever thing to do.

“Can you imagine traveling the world with The Doctor and then seeing how they cope with it after when your life just goes back to normal? It was the weirdest feeling. But yeah, I’m joined by the beautiful Jonah Hauer-King on her journey.

“He’s a very, very interesting character, and he makes the show even more magical. So, I’m very excited to see what he’s like.”
