Emmerdale’s Lawrence Robb has opened up about being told he was being written out of the show.
Charity Dingle, played by Emma Atkins, has been struggling since killing Harry in self-defence on Christmas Day. Earlier in the week, Mackenzie was relieved when Charity finally agreed to get help.
Charity believed her torment was over after visiting Harry’s grave and trashing it as she returned home and was finally able to sleep. But her relief was short-lived as that night, she was plagued by nightmares of Harry.

Liam realised something was seriously wrong, despite Charity’s assurance that she was fine. However, once alone, Charity grabbed a knife to protect herself.
Charity suffered another night terror and ended up stabbing Mackenzie in self-defence. When he was originally told about the stabbing, Lawrence believed this was his exit storyline.
“The producers pitched it as though I was going to leave the show,” the actor exclusively told Daily Star and other press. “They told me that Charity stabs Mackenzie and I was like I need to start looking for another job then!”
Despite initially being shocked at the prospect, Lawrence admitted he was excited to act it out as it was something he’s never done during his four years on the ITV soap. He explained: “I was actually excited about having that because I’ve been on the show for a little while now and I’ve not got the chance to do this. Needless to say the novelty of lying in a hospital bed wore off pretty quickly but I’ve never done that.”
Lawrence added: “They pitched it as I was going to flatline at the end of one episode and everyone was going to be left wondering if I was going to die. So I was quite excited. Emma chipped in: “The whole nation would have been devastated may I add.”
After the horror incident, Emma revealed that Charity and Mack respond in completely different ways. The actress said: “They kind of go in very opposite directions because Charity is in total shock to begin with and wants to be charged with accidental stabbing because she feels she’s not in control of her own actions.”
The star went on: “She’s terrified and bolts everyone out of her life and home. She even tells Mackenzie to take the kids because she’s frightened of what she might do.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
