The Gavin and Stacey star couldn’t help getting emotional after receiving the scrip and finding out what happens in the Christmas special, which is just weeks away

The Gavin and Stacey finale left one cast member in tears.

The highly-anticipated finale of the beloved BBC hit will air on Christmas Day (December 25) at 9pm. It’s been five years since Nessa got down on one knee and proposed to Smithy during the last Christmas special.

Fans have been left wondering what happens next ever since. Others have been wanting to know just what happened between Uncle Brynn and Jason on that infamous fishing trip.

He said: “Well, from knowing it was happening, there was quite a long wait to get the script and we were all sent it on the same day, and we have a WhatsApp group, and the group just became such a buzz of people being blown away by the script.

“I hadn’t read it because I was running around somewhere, so I was a little bit later to read it, but I was also blown away and absolutely loved it. It actually moved me to tears, you know, as I was reading some of it out loud to my wife, and my eyes sort of caught my voice, as it were when reading it. So I thought it was just superb.”

Rob wasn’t the only cast member moved to tears as Matthew Horne, who plays Gavin, confessed he got tearful after reading the script. He admitted he was “nervous” about reading it but found it “nothing short of a masterpiece”.

He said: “I want to say I was nervous about reading the script as it’s always been Ruth and James’ priority to get the script perfect in the first instance. To tell a story the right way. And I had no evidence to suggest that this final script wouldn’t adhere to those principles and be anything other than brilliant.

“I did have a nervous compulsion to read it immediately and my expectations were exceeded. It made me laugh, it made me cry and upon completion I thought it was nothing short of a masterpiece.

“Not just in terms of an episode of Gavin & Stacey, but frankly any script I’ve ever read. I immediately took to our WhatsApp group to say as much! The nerves started upon finishing reading the script in as much as I hoped we could all meet the quality of the script upon shooting it. It hasn’t disappointed!”

Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, revealed she risked getting a parking fine as she was too busy reading the script in the car park of a service station. She said: “It was really exciting when I received the script. I was driving home from another job and I pulled into the services.

“I was standing and waiting at the counter for a burger, and I looked down at my phone and suddenly it came up and I thought, oh my God, I’ve got this thing on my phone which loads of people here in the service station would love to see! I got in the car and ate my burger and read the first half of the script.

“Then I thought, I better move on to another services before I get a parking fine. So I drove on to the next services, and then I carried on reading the rest of the script. I was just voice noting Ruth, who was sending messages to James with me, going, “Oh my god, I can’t believe this!” and “Oh my god, I can’t believe that!”
