Meat Rack is the place to go at Glastonbury if you want to keep the party going all night long.
At Worthy Farm’s NYC Downlow venue, Meat Rack is situated at the back and is a popular hot spot among festival goers. If you’re banking on bagging a spot in the queue, you can expect to wait upwards of two hours and once you’re in, party people are expected to adhere to the strict rules set in place by the Glasto gods.

Phone cameras are covered and alcohol is not permitted inside, so the whole thing is a huge mystery until you manage to make your way through the doors. Last year it was reported that the main rule was a rather strange one – if you wanted to enter, you were expected to have or wear a moustache.
Entrees were encouraged to buy the fake facial hair on the door, with a small fee of £2 that was sent straight to charity. Daily Star reporter Dan Laurie took a trip to Meat Rack a few years back and spoke to one of the partygoers: “The venue is compared to stepping onto a film set, from the dancers greeting you outside to the dingy and smokey neon lit underworld inside.”
According to the report, entrants are “free to dance” and “get frisky,” but consent it mandatory. On Glastonbury’s website under the Block 9 page, the Meat Rack description reads: “Hidden at the back of the NYC Downlow you will find The Meat Rack. Hot, dark and sweaty, The Meat Rack features the ultimate sleazy homo-centric line up.”
The queer nightclub first appeared at Glastonbury back in 2007, whereas the legendary festival has been running since 1970. Held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, the five day extravaganza plays host to a wide variety of acts and performers.
Officially known as Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the grounds welcome music, dance, comedy, theatre, circus and cabaret performances among many other quirky things to see and do.
