GMB chaos as guest calls Kate Garraway the wrong name in tense interview

Good Morning Britain was thrust into chaos after Kate Garraway was given a completely different name by a guest.

Garraway, 56, once again returned to present the ITV morning news show on Friday (May 17). The show was also hosted by fellow regular co-host Robert Rinder, as they ran through the stories making headlines.

After they rounded up the main news stories of the day, the pair turned their attention to an interview with Labour politician Peter Kyle. The MP for Hove has been acting as the Shadow Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary since last year.

Kyle was brought on to the programme to discuss Labour’s election plans, as bosses at the show put the party’s policies to the test. Speaking to a number of people in London, the people were asked to decide whether a policy was Labour or Tory, with all but one getting the wrong answer.

Putting their findings to the MP, Kate explained: “I can see that [the beliefs you have] are earnestly felt. I can see that you mean, I’m sure that you understand how you are going to achieve it.

“The trouble for you is that the arguments are so similar to the Conservatives at the moment,” Kate added. She went on to press Peter on the party’s tax policy, leading to more tense exchanges between the two.

However, as Kyle gave his response to Kate’s claims, he slipped up and gave the host a different name. After pointing out the same approach to their tax policy, Peter told Kate: “Look, Susan, I just wish once–“.

Co-host Robert immediately leapt into action to correct Peter’s blunder, chiming in: “Sorry, just to help you, it’s Kate sitting next to me.” Kyle immediately became red-faced and apologised instantly to the host: “Oh no, I’m so sorry Kate! I do apologise!”

Fans watching the interview were quick to tear into Kyle for his slip-up, with many taking to social media to let their views be heard. One fan penned: “Can’t even get Kate’s name right!”

A second user asked: “Did he just call her Susan?! LOL!” Whilst a third viewer pointed out: “Well, there’s no Susan either, it’s Susanna.”

Kate herself was quick to let the accidental mishap go, as at the end of the interview he apologised once again for misnaming her. She said it was okay, saying: “Poor Peter, he can’t be expected to remember people like me!”

However, the run-in would continue to run throughout the show, as showbiz host Richard Arnold was quick to jump on the fun. In the following segment where he gave the latest celebrity gossip, he branded Robert as “Rylan”, and himself as “Ben Shephard”, in a silly jab towards the politician.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
