Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester surprises fans with role in HBO comedy series

Gossip Girl fans assemble – Leighton Meester’s next television role has officially been announced and it looks like fans will be in for some laughs.

The actress and co-actor Quenlin Blackwell will guest star alongside Rachel Sennott in a pilot for her brand new comedy series on HBO, Variety reports. The pilot was picked up by network back in March and will also star Odessa A’zion, Jordan Firstman, Miles Robbins and True Whitaker.

In addition to starring in the show, Rachel will also serve as a writer and executive producer on the pilot. Joining her will be Lorene Scafaria who will be directing and executive producing the new concept and Emma Barrie and Aida Rodgers are also executive producing.

The official logline for the show reads: “A co-dependent friend group reunites, navigating how the time apart, ambition, and new relationships have changed them.”

Quenlin, who is a social media star and influencer, is set to make her acting debut in the series and has amassed over 9.8 million followers on TikTok, 2.3 million followers on Instagram and nearly 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube.

Loyal fans of Leighton’s flocked to Reddit to share their excitement for her latest venture as one person wrote: “So excited to see Leighton Meester popping up in more things recently, I’ve missed her, she’s so talented!” Another user expressed: “I’m rewatching Gossip Girl and she’s such a gem. It’s impressive how she can switch from drama to comedy so seamlessly.”

Somebody else commented: “Leighton Meester employment at HBO Era… oh we are BACK back girlies.” (sic). A fourth fan said: “Leighton, my queen. So happy to see her in more projects. She deserves all the success.”

While a fifth added: “Can’t wait to see Leighton Meester in more comedy series! She was great on how I met your father and parents [sic].” Leighton is best known for her role as Blair Wardorf on Gossip Girl, which ran from 2007 to 2012.

She’s been super busy as of late, having appeared in direct-to-video thriller film River Wild and Christmas rom-com EXmas, both of which released last year. The actress also has a recurring role as Meredith in How I Met Your Father, the spin-off to the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

The yet untitled comedy series will air on HBO and is yet to be given a release date.
