Hollyoaks Marie Fielding star Rita Simons breaks silence as character’s fate confirmed

Hollyoaks actress Rita Simons had addressed her future in the Channel 4 soap after viewers were gobsmacked to learn that Marie Fielding is still alive in a jaw-dropping plot twist.

During the show’s explosive stunt week, Marie was left for dead following a motorbike crash into the McQueens’ pad, caused by Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin). After her condition worsened at the hospital, she vanished off-screen for emergency treatment.

Her son Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) chillingly pinned the blame on his girlfriend Cleo, claiming Marie had died and it was all down to her. Since then, no one has addressed about Marie’s supposed demise and she was nowhere to be seen in the soap’s groundbreaking time-jump episode on Monday (September 16).

However, Marie popped up out of the blue during Tuesday’s (September 17) episode, now available to watch on Channel 4 online, revealing she’s very much alive but clueless that her son Abe has been telling lies about her being dead to Cleo.

Abe was caught on camera playing the doting son, checking in on Marie’s physio sessions one year post-crash, reports the Mirror. Then Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), who’s secretly seeing Abe, rocked up, and Marie let slip to Peri that Abe had been bad-mouthing his past with Cleo as he weaves his web of deceit.

The locals reckon Cleo’s living the high life in Bali, but the grim truth is Abe’s had her cooped up behind a reinforced locked door in his flat since the deadly smash-up a year back.

Speaking on the National TV Awards red carpet, Rita spilled the beans on what to expect when Marie finally clocks onto her evil son Abe’s antics. Rita shared: “I don’t think she’ll believe it because he can do no wrong. I do think when she finds out she might spiral but she might have a new man who will support her.”

Tragedy struck as Marie survived the catastrophic motorcars crash, but Suzanne Ashworth (Suzanne Hall) wasn’t so lucky, dying in the arms of her daughter Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith) moments after confessing that she believed her amidst Frankie’s revelations about the harrowing sexual abuse by her twin brother JJ Osborne (Ryan Mulvey).

Suzanne’s life was cut short after being squashed and pinned under the bike. News of her fate left JJ thunderstruck at the hospital, against a backdrop of intensifying family strife.

Meanwhile, Abe has been deceiving Cleo into thinking he is holding her captive for her own good, all while implying that their neighbours still hold grudges against her for sparking the horrendous smash-up.

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
