Hollyoaks star Emma Rigby ‘quits’ Channel 4 soap despite recent return

Hollyoaks’ Hannah Ashworth star played by actress Emma Rigby is reportedly set to exit the Channel 4 soap once again.

Despite her recent return after a decade-long hiatus, Emma is reportedly leaving the show once again. Emma made a brief comeback earlier this year and was rumoured to have signed a permanent deal with the show, although the soap never confirmed the length of her return.

Currently, she’s embroiled in a major storyline involving fellow returnee Robbie Roscoe. However, amid significant changes on the show, including a speculated mass cast cull of up to 20 characters, it’s claimed that Emma has decided to leave.

An insider allegedly told The Sun: “It just wasn’t working out for Emma. She agreed a long-term return with certain expectations but that all changed.”

“She’s a professional through and through but the changes were too much so she decided to walk away.”

The insider revealed: “There’s a worry other high-profile cast members may see this as an opportunity to leave the show.

“While they’re all very supportive of the soap, the reduced budget and seeing friends and colleagues leave after so many years takes its toll.

“If more go willingly then it may be that the writing is very much on the wall for the show. It will be hard to recover from further blows.”

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the soap would cut down to three episodes a week starting in September, with a bold time jump planned. The fictional village will leap a year ahead, setting the stage for numerous characters to make their exit.

This week brought news that up to 20 actors might face the chop, alongside recent announcements of stars voluntarily departing.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 at 7.30pm
