Top Hollywood boss Carol Baum has slammed Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, branding one of her films “unwatchable”.
Baum has produced major films including a Dead Ringers remake and the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was released before Joss Whedon’s TV adaptation. Now she has blasted Sydney, claiming she’s “not pretty” and “can’t act”.
Baum told New York Times film critic Janet Maslin at a Dead Ringers screening: “I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney’s movie because I wanted to watch it.” This came in reference to Sweeney’s rom-com Anyone But You.

She continued: “I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her. I watched this unwatchable movie – sorry to people who love this movie – a romantic comedy where they hate each other.” Carol then confronted her students at the USC School of Cinematic Arts with a question.
“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’ Nobody had an answer but then the question was asked, ‘Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?’
“I said, ‘Well that’s a really good question… that’s a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.’”
But Euphoria star Sydney is still riding on a high, having just starred in her new horror film Immaculate, along with the Marvel movie Madame Web. Her TV career has included everything from The Handmaid’s Tale to The White Lotus.
She recently opened up about being able to “use sex as a weapon” in her new film, a remake of Barbarella which originally starred Jane Fonda. She’s also executive producing the new flick, and said: “Barbarella is such a fun character to explore. She embraces her femininity and sexuality, and I love that. I’ve always wanted to do sci-fi. So we’ll see what happens.

“She uses sex as a weapon and I think that’s such an interesting way into the sci-fi world. I watched the original and was like, ‘This is incredibly insane and beyond iconic’. I thought, ‘This would be interesting to be made in today’s world’.”
She’s up for “talking to” Jane Fonda – now aged 86 – about making a cameo in the film, but says: “It depends if she wants to be involved.”
