Brat Pack star Molly Ringwald has opened up about being “taken advantage of” by “predators” when she was a young actress.
The 56-year-old was a big name in Hollywood in the 80s, when she starred in a string of coming of age films like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink. But she has now shared that she found herself in some “questionable situations” earlier in her career.
Speaking on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Molly said she was “a shy, introverted person” when she was younger and that she didn’t really feel like she was part of a community back then as she was “too young” for the whole club scene. But when the comedian said she was lucky she wasn’t taken advantage of, she quickly set him straight.

“Oh, I was taken advantage of,” the actress replied. “You can’t be a young actress in Hollywood and not have predators around.”
“But I wasn’t raped by Harvey Weinstein,” Molly added. “So I’m grateful for that.”
The actress said she managed to work out a way to look after herself when she found herself in certain situations, although she admitted it could be “harrowing”. “I do have an incredible survival instinct and a pretty big superego and kind of managed to figure out a way to protect myself,” she said.
Molly tied the knot with writer Panio Gianopoulos in 2007 and they have a son and two daughters. One of her daughters, 20-year-old Mathilda has followed in her footsteps by going into acting but Molly admitted she “did everything I could to convince her to do something else” because it can be “hard”.
The actress was in her late teens when she starred in some of her biggest movies, but has since suggested that some scenes wouldn’t be as “acceptable” now. In 2018 she spoke to NPR about it, saying: “You know, when I made those movies with (director) John Hughes, his intention was to not make Porky’s or Animal House.
“But I think, you know, as everyone says and I do believe is true, that times were different and what was acceptable then is definitely not acceptable now and nor should it have been then, but that’s sort of the way that it was… I feel very differently about the movies now and it’s a difficult position for me to be in because there’s a lot that I like about them.
“And of course, I don’t want to appear ungrateful to John Hughes, but I do oppose a lot of what is in those movies.”
