Hollywood icon unrecognisable with mohawk and dramatic makeup for new role

Peter Dinklage was unrecognisable as he was snapped in character for his upcoming King Lear movie.

The Hollywood star is playing The Fool in the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, which is titled Lear Rex. And despite being hugely well known for starring as Tyrion Lannister in Game Of Thrones, many fans would probably struggle to work out it was him as he stepped out on set in LA.

Peter looked completely different to normal, with white makeup plastered all over his face. His eyes were ringed with black and red shadow that looked as if it was bleeding down his pale cheeks, and he was wearing bright red lipstick that was smudged in the same way.

The star’s dark hair had been styled into a dramatic mohawk that was covered in the same white paint as his face. In one image it looked as if the actor had shaved the sides of his hair and was wearing the long curls on top in a plait down the back.

Peter, 55, was clad in an eye-catching red outfit covered in delicate gold embroidery. It consisted of long robes and what looked like a cape, which billowed around him as he walked across the set.

Lear Rex is set to be a modern take on King Lear. It will see the elderly king splitting his kingdom among his daughters, only to have the older ones turn away from him as they try and seize power.

The movie boasts a starry cast, with Al Pacino on board as Lear and Jessica Chastain, Ariana DeBose and Rachel Brosnahan set to play his daughters Goneril, Cordelia and Regan. Danny Huston and Stephen Dorff are also among the cast.

Pacino has also been spotted on set since the cameras started rolling on the project, with the star wearing regal black and gold robes and covered in gold jewellery.

Deadline previously quoted producer Barry Navidi as saying that the movie would be “a remarkable and unforgettable cinematic experience”. “We are merging the worlds of Shakespeare and Hollywood,” he said.

Principal photography on the project started in August and so far the release date has not been announced.
