James Corden’s cheeky onset antics have been exposed while filming the final episode of Gavin and Stacey.
Fans of the beloved BBC sitcom were in their element on Tuesday (September 3) when the cast were spotted filming on Barry Island, just outside of Cardiff. The 46-year-old actor was seen chuckling amongst his co-stars Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa, and Joanna Page, who portrays Stacey.
In one of the snaps, the former talk show host could be seen strolling up and down the Victorian promenade in a lilac jacket next to the ice cream parlour, Scoop. The shop owner has since opened up about what it was like to meet the Fat Friends star on set.

Laura Davenport, 38, who hails from Barry, gushed to PA: “We’ve been making ourselves known to anyone that will talk to us to be honest! Because of where the shop is, we’ve kind of been on set almost.
“We waved madly at James and got him over to the shop. He’s really lovely, asking about the shop, saying that it was really lovely, really different. He was great, he had some photos with us – one of the girls that works for us is our baker so he had one of her brownies as well.”
“He’s been lovely to everybody to be honest, all the fans, he’s had photos with them – so it’s been a great day.” Fans can’t wait for the final ever episode to air this Christmas after co-writers James and Ruth confirmed they were back in business.
The comedy was last on our screens back in 2019 which ended with a dramatic cliffhanger. But it wasn’t until May this year that it was confirmed the programme would be returning two years on.
In July, co-writers James and Ruth confirmed that a script had been completed and now the gang are back together as filming begins. But it hasn’t always been plain sailing for the beloved actor.
Over the years, the star has been marked by some embarrassing lows, including being accused of exhibiting diva behaviour and stealing jokes from other comedians. Most recently, Corden was branded a “tiny cretin of a man” and banned from the New York City restaurant Balthazar over his alleged treatment of the staff.
The owner of the eatery Keith McNally alleged on Instagram that the actor was “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar serves since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” However, McNally rescinded the ban shortly after and claimed that Corden had “apologised profusely” and “all was forgiven” in a second post.
The Smithy star later addressed the controversy on his talk show, saying:” They truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server.”
It appears as though the star has since turned a corner after he reunited with his co-stars in the heart of Barry Island. Ms Davenport added that there was “a massive buzz” as a result of the show’s return, adding it was “great for business after a slow summer with the bad weather.”
The businesswoman also added that she is hopeful her shop, Scoop, will appear in the background during the festive special. She went on: “They’re going to be doing some shots later, so we’ll be in the back of some of the shots as well. So yeah, really excited to potentially be on TV on Christmas Day!”
On Monday (September 2), James took to social media to get fans excited before the show hit screens. The Late Late Show star took to social media to share a snap from behind the scenes.
He shared a picture of the side of Smithy’s work van which boasted a cheeky advert. It read: “Smithy’s: If your husband won’t do it – I will.. Tilin, roofin, platerin, * feng shui. Call me on 07700978978.”
Alongside the picture of the unlucky-in-love handyman’s vehicle, the actor penned: “Day 1. Here we go” which he signed off with a kiss. Fans will have to stay tuned to see what will unfold during the Christmas saga.
