Jamie Foxx finally explains why he was hospitalised after ‘medical episode’

Rapper and actor Jamie Foxx suffered a serious medical incident that left him with a mild case of amnesia – and now the Hollywood star has opened up on how it happened

Jamie Foxx has explained why he was mysteriously hospitalised last year.

Django Unchained icon Jamie, 56, was taken to hospital in a bizarre turn of events in April of 2023, after he suffered a “medical complication”. At the time, Jamie’s family kept specific details about his condition under wraps for the sake of his privacy.

However, nearly two years on from the scary incident, actor Jamie has finally opened up on what happened, revealing he suffered a stroke caused by a bleed on the brain. He confessed it led to him being unable to remember the 20 days leading up to the incident.

After he recovered, Foxx revealed that he had to learn how to walk again and had temporary amnesia, in a terrifying ordeal for the star. The actor grew tearful speaking about the health horror in his new Netflix show.

Speaking on Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, the Hollywood legend said that the emergency came on suddenly. “On April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for Aspirin,” Jamie recalled.

“I realised quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f*** to do,” he added. Jamie then confessed: “I don’t remember 20 days.”

Breaking down in tears, Jamie went on to say that he was finally “back” to some degree of normality, adding: “You don’t know how good this feels.” He admitted that what caused the bleed on the brain was still unexplained and that it was “mystery” to him, his family and medical professionals that were treating him.

Speaking on a stage in the Netflix show, Jamie addressed the audience before welling up and breaking down. He was applauded by the audience in the theatre as he regained his composure and tried to explain what had happened to him.

“Your life doesn’t flash before you, it was kind of oddly peaceful,” Jamie said. “I saw the tunnel, but I didn’t see the light; it was hot in that tunnel.”

He went on thank his sister Deidra for saving his life as she was the one to drive him to the hospital, where he underwent a life-saving operation. He was then kept out of the limelight for months, as he awoke from a coma weeks after the incident.

He added that his family had been adamant they would not reveal Jamie’s condition to the wider world. “I was dizzy from the stroke, so my head would bob around, and my family thought everyone would ‘meme the f***’ out of me,” he laughed, crowd welcomed him back to the stage.

Gradually recovering, Jamie was reduced to a wheelchair he attempted to learn how to walk again. However, Jamie was happy at the end of the tunnel, quipping: “You need to kill the old Jamie so the new Jamie can thrive.”
