She’s acted in lots of sex scenes over the course of her career, some of which have led to hilarious consequences. So, as Kate celebrates her 49th birthday today (October 5), Daily Star looks at some of Kate Winslet’s confessions from her sex scenes.

Same-sex romps

Kate said she enjoyed filming her lesbian sex scene with Saoirse Ronan

In 2020, Kate starred in the period film Ammonite, which sees her take on the role of British palaeontologist Mary Anning. Alongside her was Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, who was in the midst of her Hollywood boom.

The film sees both women gradually fall in love with each other, include a particularly steamy oral sex scene. After filming wrapped, Kate admitted that she particularly enjoyed her scene with Saoirse as they both knew what the other one wanted.

Speaking to NBC News, Kate said: “Women know what women want, let’s not beat about the bush. Saoirse and I knew we could unite in our feelings about these characters and where they’re at, and to tell that story physically; it was a very joyful experience.”

Accidentally flashing Leo

Kate’s biggest break came in 1997 in the iconic film Titanic, where she played the loveable Rose, who was saved as the ship sank. However, before the boat hit the iceberg, both Kate and Leo were seen getting steamy in a car that had been stationed on the ship.

While the pair had seen each other completely naked during the course of filming the raunchy sex scenes, Kate revealed she had accidentally flashed her co-star another time beforehand. Spilling the beans to People magazine in 1998, she explained: “I was having my make-up put on – with nothing on – and there was Leo.

“He saw me and went ‘Whoah!’ and I said, ‘We’re going to spend the whole day like this; we might as well get over it now,” she added. “That broke the ice.”

Co-star fantasies

One of Kate’s teenage dreams came true when she was able to get down and dirty with former Neighbours icon Guy Pearce, whom Kate had watched when she was a child. The pair had to act out a sex scene for the HBO series Mare of Easttown.

During his stint on Ramsay Street, Guy played the role of hunky Mike and left many viewers hot under the collar, including Kate herself. Revealing all to film critic Mark Kermode on his podcast Kermode on Film, she revealed that prior to filming the scenes, the couple had to isolate together in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She went on to admit that there were points where they acted like a real couple, saying: “I would remind him of that all the time – like ‘Darling, why am I going through the bins with you? This was not in my fantasy when I was eleven years old and fell in love with you in Neighbours.’”

Luckily for Kate, Guy was able to get on the joke and laugh about it with his co-star, though Kate admitted that there were times when he was stubborn. He went on to joke: “If there’s a sardine tin in the trash it has to go in the dishwasher.”

Foot fetish fun

Kate appeared to air out a particularly raunchy secret about co-star Idris Elba, as she pointed out that he has a hidden foot fetish. The pair had been appearing on the Graham Norton Show to promote their new film The Mountain Between Us, when she made the stark revelation.

In one scene, the pair had to get their kit off and down to business, but before the shooting started Idris asked if she could keep her socks on, leaving Kate bemused. She said: “Idris said, ‘Keep your socks on!’ and I’m like, ‘Keep my socks on? Everything else is off – what’s with the socks?’.

“And he said, ‘No. I’ve got a foot thing'”. Elba explained the did not want her socks to come off and to see what Kate described as her “hobbit feet”.

Initially, Kate believed that Idris hated feet, adding that Kate had self-described “cliffhangers”, but soon found out that it in fact was the opposite and that the Lucifer actor loved them. Kate continued: “I have got very, very big feet – and they’re not particularly beautiful feet either”. She then insisted she would keep her feet inside her shoes for Idris’ sake.

“Anyway, so I’m thinking, ‘Well, poor Idris doesn’t want to see my feet ’cause maybe he just does not like feet in general and that’s the whole thing. It’s the opposite, ladies and gentlemen – Idris loves feet.” The revelation left Idris red-faced as he scrambled to save face, with fellow guest Chris Rock chiming in to exclaim: “I can’t wait to see this movie”.

Sending the crew out

Throughout her time as an actress, Kate has done many a sex scene, which tends to run on the same premise. However, for her role in HBO’s The Regime, Kate’s raunchy antics were so bizarre that the crew filming the shot had to be sent out of the room.

In the show, Elena Vernham, played by Kate, falls in love with Herbert Zubak, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. As the show progressed, the pair were seen getting down to it – but due to a previous reference in episode five, where Herbert bites Elena’s finger, she can be heard screaming, “No biting!” during the scene.

Ahead of the series premiere, Kate revealed in a press conference that filming the scenes was so hilarious, some members of the crew were told to leave the set as they could not stop laughing. However, it was soon revealed that these people were in fact the make-up artist and the cinematographer, both of which were playing important roles in production.
