Kylie Minogue might be the most humble pop legend going.
Making her debut with Locomotion in 1987, the former Neighbours star made an incredibly successful transition to music. Since then, she’s released hit after hit and continues to do so now.
Days after she released her latest track My Oh My, featuring Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo, Kylie headlined BST Hyde Park and I was lucky enough to be there. And the atmosphere could not have been better.

After support acts including Anitta and Marina (more on her later), Kylie took to the famous Great Oak Stage and was met with thunderous applause and screams. She kicked things off with newer track Tension.
From the get go we knew why we were there – to have one huge open-air party with the Queen of Pop. With thousands of fans of all ages – literally, there was everyone from toddlers to grandparents – Kylie was clearly feeling the love.
What really surprised me was Kylie’s reaction to the screams. She is a legend, surely she realises that?
My friends and I spoke about it briefly – does she wake up thinking “I am THE Kylie Minogue”? It’s something us “normal” people will never understand, but it is still very surprising to see someone who has been so globally adored for decades almost lost for words.
Kylie’s set featured a great selection of songs from throughout her back catalogue, from her debut Locomotion to Get Outta My Way and Slow. She also performed Red Blooded Woman for the first time since 2009 which was a particular crowd pleaser.
She brought out Anitta to perform Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, and was later joined by Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo for the live debut of My Oh My. Kylie closed the show with Love At First Sight, and there was definitely love in the air – all directed towards her.
It was my first time seeing Kylie live, but I’d also been incredibly excited to see Marina (formerly Marina And The Diamonds). As a 31-year-old who spent probably way too much time on the internet in the early 2010s, Marina was the soundtrack to my early adult life.
I’d once been supposed to see her at Leeds Festival, but as an 18-year-old let loose with alcohol for the first time I ended up missing her set. So getting to see Marina now, as an adult who is (slightly) more responsible, was very special.
Her album Electra Heart is one of my favourite albums of all time, and How To Be A Heartbreaker is my favourite Marina song. For me, she was the perfect warm up act for Kylie, and I’m so grateful I finally got to see her too.
