A Loose Women legend made a surprise return to the panel and hinted she would permanently make a comeback.
The show once again hit our screens on Wednesday (May 22) as the ITV programme turned back the clock to pay tribute to a former titan series. The show aired 40 years to the day since Surprise Surprise first graced our screens with its vision of giving back to unsung heroes, all the way back on May 22, 1984.
Hosted by Cilla Black, the show was a hit for ITV during the 1990s and into the 2000s, before Cilla hung up the microphone for good. Shortly before her death, ITV brought the show back – this time with Holly Willoughby at the helm, airing from 2012 to 2015.

As part of the show, host Cilla would bring out a surprise guest to shock someone who was not expecting it. This shock entrance came once again on Wednesday’s edition of Loose Women as they brought back a much-loved panellist back to the show.
Host Christine Lampard dropped a number of clues across the show, giving fans an idea of who could be coming back to the show. After much teasing during the one-hour special, Christine put everyone out of their misery and revealed that the surprise guest was former anchor Andrea McLean.
The 54-year-old left fans and viewers in shock as she made her grand return to the show, four years after giving the show a fond farewell. Andrea was one of the longest-serving panellists on the show, having first appeared on the show in 2007, co-hosting the programme until 2020.
Whilst she was on the panel, she was seen catching up with her good pals Christine, Brenda Edwards, Nadia Sawalha and Judi Love. She also gave fans a huge announcement that she would be coming back to the show once again in September – as Loose Women gears up to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
But this is not the only time she is expected to appear on the ITV show, as Andrea was seen to be dropping hints of a more permanent return to the show throughout April. McLean decided to leave the show in 2020 so she could focus more on her mindset app, This Girl is On Fire – which took off during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the show, Andrea admitted that she was “open” to coming back on a more regular basis on the show. McLean explained: “I’m open to anything, but for the past few years my answer has always been no. However, since coaching others, the door in my head has creaked open a bit… and suddenly people are knocking on the door again, which is nice. So yes, I could be coming back to screens this year, but I’m not saying any more than that!”
She also gave fans the inside scoop on her relationship with some of her former stars. Andrea revealed that she still continues to speak to some of her former co-stars including Denise Welch, Janet Street-Porter and Coleen Nolan; though she did admit that “not everyone” was so lucky to keep in touch with her.
She explained that she had gradually lost contact with her co-panellists “in the same way that everybody doesn’t keep in touch with everyone they’ve worked with”. She added: “I saw Brenda last week and Denise; there are a few of us [who stay in touch]. I don’t go out very often, but I did attend Linda Robson’s book launch in London recently, she’s brilliant!”
