Love Island viewers are convinced they have figured out the real reason why Joey Essex kissed Nicole Samuel.
During the challenge on Monday (July 16), the TOWIE star chose to kiss the Welsh TV star in a game of snog, marry, pie. However, her boyfriend Ciaran Davies was left fuming.
Currently, Nicole and Ciaran are the only official ‘closed off’ couple on the show – hence why eyebrows were left raised. Some fans believed that Joey has been a ‘producer plant’ since he entered the show.

By that, they mean he’s been put in there to stir things up with other contestants to help producers get better storylines. Talking about the latest drama, one wrote on X: “Swear the producers must’ve had a word with Joey because what is this weird behaviour over the last 2 days. Kissing your mate’s girlfriend? Are u ok.”

A second added: “Why did Joey kiss Nicole?? Joey always moves MAD lol. He has clearly reclaimed his role as a part time producer of this show.” While a third penned: “Joey has put his producer hat back on. His actions are purely for drama, zero logic.”
A fourth posted: “Joey is wildin..the producer plant allegations are just getting stronger.” A fifth typed: “Joey is such a producer plant. He’s just there to cause drama when it gets dry man.”

Following Joey’s choice to kiss Nicole, Ciaran pulled him aside and told him about his thoughts on the matter and how he thought it was uncalled for. During the chat, Ciaran then hit out: “Joey, let me f**king talk. I just think it’s weird that you’ve gone and kissed by missus, that’s it.”
Joey has also been accused of “gaslighting” his ex Grace Jackson after claiming she still has feeling for him – despite her being adamant that she hasn’t.

Fans also called this out online, with one writing: “Joey is so passive aggressive towards Grace. Massive gas lighter. I used to like him but he’s really let himself down on Love Island. Grace has carried herself really well.”
