Coronation Street’s new star Emrhys Cooper hit the screens on Friday.
He’s stepping into the show as Rowan Cunliffe, who’s going to be a big deal in Leanne Battersby’s life. Jane Danson, who plays Leanne, gets curious about this mystery man at a self-help bash.
Emrhys isn’t just any actor; you might have seen him in huge shows like Mamma Mia!, Desperate Housewives, and CSI:NY. But there’s more to him than his acting chops he’s got a celebrity sister and an X Factor past, reports Birmingham Live.

He’s 39, hails from Devon, and he couldn’t wait to tell everyone he’s joining Corrie. His mum, Raphaela, used to dance and now paints, and while in a care home, she’s going to be tuning in to see her boy on the box.
Emrhys shared the big news on Instagram, saying: “The cat is out of the bag. Today is a good day, I am bursting with pride, and so excited to announce that I have joined the cast of the iconic British TV series @coronationstreet. Playing the character of Rowan Cunliffe.
“Lots of really great storylines in the pipe line. Corrie is the longest running soap opera in the world! For well over half a century, Coronation Street has held a mirror to the British public through good times, and bad, so many incredible actors have walked the legendary cobblestones streets and now I’m pinching myself that I will be one of them.
“I’m also so happy that my mother will be able to watch the show from her nursing home. Thanks again to all the amazing people involved in the production. They have welcomed me with open arms and open hearts. Let’s do this! I first appear on the 15th March.”
Emrhys Cooper isn’t the only star in his family. His older sister, Fleur, has also been on our TV screens before. She was one of the stars of the ITV2 series Million Dollar Babes, which followed young women working in the clubbing industry. Fleur was 25 when she appeared on the show and her job at the time was supplying ‘tequila girls and entertainment for parties’.
She now runs a successful Travel and Lifestyle company. Emrhys Cooper also has a connection to X Factor. Emrhys started working professionally at the age of 12, appearing in several UK TV shows and commercials. He earned a scholarship to The Central School of Ballet before changing course and attending the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts School to pursue a career in musical theatre.
Emrhys Cooper started his career on the stage, touring with ‘Fame the Musical’. At just 21, he hit the big time in London’s West End with the Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’.
He’s not just an actor though; he’s danced with superstars like Madonna and Christina Aguilera, and even appeared on telly shows like ‘X Factor’ and ‘America’s Got Talent’. But it’s not all been smooth sailing for Emrhys. He tried his hand at music, releasing songs like “Hypnotized” and “Reboot My Heart”.
Sadly, his songwriting friend Elaine passed away from cancer. Now, he’s all about helping others by supporting the Urology Care Foundation and reminding everyone to check up on their health.
