The mayor of the Greek island where British TV doc Michael Mosley has vanished has declared there’s “no chance” they’ll stop searching until he’s found.
Symi’s mayor, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, is dead set on continuing the massive hunt that’s seen cops, drone-toting firefighters, and divers scouring the area. Through a translator, the long-standing mayor clocking in at 22 years expressed doubts about survival prospects in the scorching heat, which soared past 40C when Mosley went AWOL.
A sniffer dog could only hack an hour’s search on Saturday morning because of the blistering temps, as the search kicked off again, he revealed. Mosley’s four children have arrived on Symi to help with the search efforts.

His wife, Dr Clare Bailey, has been combing the island with her Brit friends in tow, according to Mr Papakaloudoukas. He described the terrain where Mosley is thought to have trekked as “difficult to pass” and full of rocks.

Not to mention, there may be snakes, he added. One of the rescue squad branded the mission to locate Mosley as a “race against time” just this Friday.
The 67-year-old telly star vanished after heading out for a stroll to the island’s heart on Wednesday. Mr Papakaloudoukas is holding onto hope that Mosley will turn up “safe and alive”, saying: “All the community is so sad about this, (it has) never happened before.”
Firefighters began a thorough search of a 6.5km (four-mile) radius over a mountainous area surrounded by sea at 6am, according to Manolis Tsimpoukas, who coordinates searches for missing individuals on the Dodecanese Islands. When asked about any signs of the doc, he responded with “nothing, nothing”, adding that if anything is found, they will locate him within an hour.

He described the area as “very dangerous”. It’s believed that Mosley was last captured on CCTV at a grey-stoned house next to a harbour on the island. He might have taken a steep uphill concrete road.
A small path leading into the rocky landscape with sparse vegetation beyond thistles and dry grass can be found at the end of this street.
On Friday, Mika Papakalodouka, the mayor’s daughter, told PA news agency that many island residents had joined the search, using their own boats to look for the British national. The 20-year-old said to PA: “It is a small island, people talk.

“We’re good people actually here. Everybody is looking for him,” adding: “It’s such a small island to get lost on. It’s so weird for us. Everybody is worried and looking for him.”
A woman reported seeing Mosley, known for popularising the 5:2 diet and his appearances on The One Show and This Morning, in the Pedi area on Wednesday. According to a local Facebook group, Mosley went for a walk from Saint Nikolas beach around 1.30pm Greek time (11.30am BST) on Wednesday.
