P Diddy’s name has been caught in a number of Hollywood scandals.
Sean Combs, 54, is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn facing charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, which the hip-hop mogul has denied. However, the recent charges brought before him are far from Diddy’s first recorded incidents.
From beef at the nightclub to full on fights, from threats of “cutting throats” to a mysterious car explosion, Diddy has been linked to a some serious Hollywood turmoil. Before his recent arrest on 16 September, the rapper’s past was filled with alleged controversies, scandals and conspiracies.

“I’m gonna cut your throat!”
J Cole isn’t the first person you would expect to find in an alcohol induced physical interactions with other rappers. In fact, during Cole’s most recent rap beef with hip-hop titan Kendrick Lamar, he ended up issuing an apology to Kendrick on stage at a concert for dissing him: “That sh** don’t sit right with my spirit.”
However, after the 2013 MTV VMA after-party hosted by both Diddy and Jay-Z, who J Cole was then signed under, reports began to circulate of a physical altercation taking place between Diddy and Cole. The origins of this incident allegedly started with something the rapper Kendrick Lamar said in a previous record on his 2013 Control verse.
Kendrick listed J Cole along with other rappers and exclaimed his intention to “murder” them and the rest of his competition. Kendrick labelled himself the “The King of New York”. Diddy reportedly attempted to pour a drink over Kendrick’s head for the bold claim, at which point J Cole stepped in to defend his pal.
In a recent R&B MONEY podcast episode, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, president of Top Dawg Entertainment, alleged Diddy said: “I’m gonna break it on the table and I’m gonna cut your throat,” while holding a glass bottle during a heated exchange between Diddy and J Cole. Punch went on to claim a huge scuffle broke out between the two rappers, during which both of them fell and knocked some drinks over.
In the aftermath of the alleged incident Cole took to Twitter and tweeted: “People will believe anything”. However, eight years after the incident, Cole finally properly acknowledged the incident on his album The Off Season (2021) On the record Let Go My Hand, Cole raps: “My last scrap was with Puff Daddy, who would have thought it? I brought that n**** album in seventh grade and played it so much you would have thought my favourite rapper was Puff. Back then I ain’t know sh**, now I know too much.”
0 to 100, Real Quick
Diddy’s alleged alteration with Drake spawned from arguments surrounding Drake’s iconic twice grammy nominated hit record 0 to 100 / The Catch Up. This beef reportedly started over the disputed nature of the track’s beat.
In a 2013 Breakfast Club interview Diddy claimed that he originally owned the beat. When asked what had happened surrounding the song, he told the Breakfast Club: “0 to 100 was initially… was my record” and further clarified: “Nah the beat was mine.” When probed on why he sent the song to Drake in the first place, he answered: “To ghost write for me.”
Ultimately, Drake recorded the entire song and sent it to Diddy, who no longer wanted it, so Drake uploaded the song to Soundcloud as a throw away. The record would then go on to blow up and became a massively successful staple of Drake’s discography.
Several months after Diddy made a fiery on stage rant aimed at Drake, a physical altercation reportedly broke out between the pair at LIV nightclub in Miami. TMZ reported that they were informed that Drake’s shoulder was dislocated in a fight between the two rappers.
It was reported that Diddy yelled: “You’ll never disrespect me again.” and then punched Drake after Diddy had attempted to confront the rapper. TMZ stated that Drake ended up at ER because of the scrap due to the ordeal exacerbating an old injury, resulting in a dislocated shoulder.
Several months after the altercation Diddy finally broke his silence in an August 2015 Breakfast Club interview: “Drake actually is my favourite rapper,” before he called the event a “misunderstanding.”
Kid Cudi’s car
Diddy and his ex-girlfriend singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura’s decade-long relationship was filled with controversy before they decided to take a break, during which Cassie began dating Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi. Cudi’s Porsche exploded in his driveway back in January 2012 and an unearthed report by the Los Angeles City Fire Department, obtained by Rolling Stone, claims the fire was started with an “incendiary device”.
The cause of the ignition was listed as “intentional” and a letter filed to the court alleges that a co-conspirator acting on behalf of Combs set fire to an unidentified person’s vehicle by “slicing open the car’s convertible top and dropping a Molotov cocktail inside.”
Alongside this, the letter states “multiple witnesses” would testify about Combs allegedly “bragging about his role in destroying Individual-1’s car”.
However, Rolling Stone reported: “’There is no allegation that Mr. Combs was involved in these actions or directed anyone else to take them,’ Combs’ lawyer Marc Agnifilo tells Rolling Stone in a statement. ‘It’s clear the government doesn’t know who set fire to the vehicle or how it relates to Mr Combs, who denies any involvement’.”
