Sandi Toksvig says hosting Great British Bake Off was her biggest-ever payday – but it bored her so much she thought she was going insane.
The broadcaster, 66, co-presented the Channel 4 show alongside Noel Fielding, 51, between 2017 and 2020 and revealed she had to leave in order to maintain her “integrity”.
She has previously spoken about not having fun on the show having explained her departure by saying she was hoping to spend “more time” on other work.

But now the QI host has come clean and said the reason was far more personal than first claimed.
She claimed: “It was the biggest paycheck of my life.
“No disrespect to people who like to cook but I didn’t like watching meringue dry and being told how many different kinds there are?
“I honestly thought I was going out of my mind.”
Sandi chose to walk away from the show, which features Paul Hollywood, 58, and Prue Leith, 84, because of the impact it was having on her mental health. She added: “I was depressed.”
